Hello all!

So I need advice. I seersucker on guys. I know I am a prep a nerd or whatever, no bow-tie included I promise. Does anyone have any photos of blue seersucker men's suits at weddings and how it looked? Does anyone absolutely hate seersucker? I just think it would be appropriate for an outdoor wedding in June...in the South.

Here's one

I don't have pictures but I like it!

Unfortunately, I would never in a million years be able to convince fiance to wear it

Yeah, that's the next step. We'll see!! I have got him into a pink shirt. He actually wore it willingly to work the other day by himself! I was so proud.

WOW. I'd have to smother John then dress his dead body to get him to wear pink or lavendar. Even then his ghost would likely come around from the back of beyond just to stop me.

Don't know about the seeksucker, would have to see pics of it at a wedding-- how does it wear? Does it wrinkle?  Would be great for the hot weather though. I know I could get John in a nice Linen/Rayon blend with a slight sheen if I set my mind to it (not for the wedding, he's adamant about the tux thing, even though the wedding IS NOT formal ), maybe that's an option if the seeksucker doesn't work out?

ETA: Okay, saw the pics of the suits. I know you want to do rainbow pastels for your bridesmaids, and my concern would be all the colors together for the wedding. I might want my ladies in one shade and color if the men were in seeksucker... but I think it would a nice cool look for them. Also, I would want a white dress for myself, not an ivory one if my groom wore one of those suits. What color did you get your dress in Sarah?

Ooh yeah, definitely. I am really looking for something on-tux if possible because I think it'll stand out. My dress is kind of formal, but not too formal for a cotton-type suit or just a lighter suit. I think it may wrinkle, will have to check on that one! Maybe I should call Brooks Brothers tomorrow.

I am not engaged yet.. but BF and I talk about wedding colors. There is no way in heck he would ever wear pink ANYTHING... much less seersucker. He wants navy blue everything. *groan* thats the only color he wears too! I finally got greens, browns, and black into his wardrobe.. but when I first met him, I thought he was color blind because he always wore blue. Dont guys usually just take the jackets off during summer weddings???? Might not even be worth it if he is against it. If he isn't ... well then all the better!! :)

No no, everyone! Hehe. I want blue or grey seersucker, not pink. I would never put FI in a pink suit.

Hey Gypsy I just read your edit! My dress is candlelight white. So it's just slightly off-white. Yeah I am in the pastels, but together I definitely think it would clash. Totally agree with you! So it'd have to be either or. If we did seersucker, then the BM dresses would have to be a steel blue, silver, or a sage green.

I LOVE seersucker. I'd be all about seersucker for a wedding (in fact, I kind of wish we'd done it for our wedding). Just make sure they wear proper shoes (bucs).

I haven't yet been able to convince my husband about seersucker, though. Last summer, my MIL and I tried soooo hard to convince him that he needed one, but he refused. "I'd look like a Mississippi lawyer!" He says that like it's a bad thing. Some of my favorite relatives are Mississippi lawyers.

Haha I am going to ask FI tonight, let's see how it goes! Hey TheBigT that's a good idea! If I can't get the guys into seersucker, maybe I can at least get the girls to wear it.

Hey ladies! I talked to FI and he said he likes seersucker, and is willing to try it. As long as it looks good on him, he said he doesn't have any issues with it. So yay!

Hi SarahLovesJS,

I lovelovelove the JCrew picture. I was going to post that if you didn't already have it. I think seersucker would be great for June in the South. Nice and cool.

I am keeping that JCrew one in mind for us (getting married in Virginia in Sept.) but I think JCrew's stuff may run too small for FI. Darn.

I was just going to say that J.Crew does seersucker particularly well.  I love the way seersucker looks, especially in the summertime.

Ok, feeling very dumb at the moment. Is seersucker that pin-stripe look? Is it a specific kind of fabric? I don't think I've heard of it before, and kind of thought it sounded like a leech.

It's a specific sort of fabric.

It's stripy and is woven so that some treads bunch together so it has a wrinkled look.

I love seersucker!

Hey Gwen! Haha. FI said it sounded like a "demon." Guess he's been watching too much Supernatural. Haha. Anyway, so this is my last predicament I've discovered. My dress is satin. I am afraid I am going to look out of place if they guys are in a light fabric, girls are in a light fabric, and I am in satin. Any thoughts?

Sigh. Much to my own disappointment I think I am tabling the idea of seersucker possibly permanently. I looked at some tonight in the Ralph Lauren store and I think it's just too informal. No the wedding isn't "formal" technically, but guess what? My dress is . So I think I will definitely end up out of place among chiffon dresses and seersucker suits. The chiffon dresses alone are fine, but with the seersucker suits I think it might just be too informal. Also, did I mention our ceremony is at 6 pm? I am just having major second thoughts and we haven't even tried the suits on yet . . . . Oh well!

Sorry it's not turning out like you wanted, Sarah. The dresses TheBigT posted are beautiful, if they weren't that expensive I would totally have bought one for my brother's wedding!

I love seersucker too, but not a whole suit of it (jacket or pants is great, but not both at the same time).  I have a guy friend who owns a seersucker suit and he wore it to a wedding we were at a few years ago, and while it is so cute in theory, its just now in real life.

Yeah appletini when I saw a seersucker jacket at Ralph Lauren with khaki shorts together, that was it for me! I also agree that for FI a whole suit might be a little less slimming than he wants.

anchor I agree I love the dresses!!

Not sure if you are still thinking of doing the seersucker suit idea... but I am in the same boat right now.  Wedding in the south and in the early summer and the Kentucky Derby theme is def been throne around.  I was going to let you know that if you need to dress it up a little the men can wear light tan suits with a "nicer fabric" seersucker tie.  The groom could do that also or he could be the only one in a seersucker suit so he is special.  The bridesmaids could wear a dressier dress and get a sash made out of the same material as the tie.  Then there is a little bit of seersucker but not too much that the wedding becomes casual.  also remember you can be a little more formal than everyone else because you are the bride.  I have also thrown aroung the idea of Navy for the bridesmaids if the men wanted to have seersucker suits or even ivory ( yes the same color as my dress )with an ivory and blue seersucker sash.  If you are still moving with this theme let me know what you think...  also there is another braidemaids site that makes many different style of dresses and you pick from different fabrics and one of them is seersucker.  I haven't checked on the price yet but hopefully is cheaper than the thread bridesmaid dresses bc there are way too expensive.  the site is
