Hmm, it's probably too early to be thinking about this, but what kind of fabrics and dresses are appropriate for a only moderately formal outdoor June garden wedding? I always love the dress on Siri's website. My dress is satin, do they need to match? Any advice would be great! I am just curious. I really like taffeta, duponi, lace, and chiffon more than satin for them if it's acceptable.  ETA: Instead of garden..I typed farden..sooo I corrected that. I am now going to sleep. Silly me.

They don't have to match your fabric and I think all of those fabrics are great. If tafetta though it would depend on the color and style I think as it's more of an evening fabric for me. I personally would like a chiffon or georgette for a June wedding, something flowy and cooler that hides wetness. I like Tea Length for what your describing in terms of formality (which is what I'm doing)... I actually personally love alvina valenta BMs gowns. Hi Sarah, We're having a similar type of wedding - gardeny ceremony outdoors in Aug. I agree that knee or tealength are the way to go, and a nice, flowy fabric would be good. I feel like tafetta might be a little heavy? My dress is doubel faced satin, and my girls are wearing a light, flowy type of shantung called "eastern silk shantung" - it has more flowiness than regular shantung. (it is by jenny yoo, btw). Good luck with the bridesmaid dress process! I know I definitely found it to be challenging, but there are tons of good options out there! What color are you doing?

I had an outdoor garden in June...not to scare you, but our wedding day was 90 degrees... the average temp on our wedding day was 78. Gotta love global warming! So, think light and what will be sweat-proof. My best bets are organza or chiffon...my girls' dresses were organza, and mine had a chiffon skirt. The organza was great, and sheers are very in right now. We did strapless tea length (including me - I did an elongated tea length). If you do taffeta, you'll see sweat the second it shows up. Same goes for any kind of crepe. Silks will look really formal and will also be very hot. I'll admit, finding organza or chiffon dresses isn't all that easy - not many styles suit outdoor weddings, but I promise you, your friends will thank you. :)

My wedding is the end of July, my bridesmaids are all under 12 and I'm not a fan of 'big' fabrics (satins, taffettas, lace etc) on young girls. So, I have designed dresses that are high waisted with little sleeves and a skirt that hangs in nice folds, and a soft sash that ties at the back. The 4 year olds have it to the knee, the 8 year-olds to mid-calf and the Maid of Honour to the ground. The fabric is a french lavender colour and is in three layers - bottom layer is a cupro lining, then a cotton lawn and the top layer is a cotton voile. I dyed the whole lot in the washing machine - took ages as I was really scared of going too dark so had to dye it up a shade at a time. The voile is gorgeous and is all soft and floaty. Cupro is breathable so if it's a hot day it won't stick to them like polyester would. I've put my mother to work at the sewing machine

it sounds like my wedding was similar to yours-- moderately formal, outdoor garden. mine was in spring, not summer, although in southern california, that really doesn't mean much. hehe. anyhow, these were my bmaids dresses-- they were in chiffon, and i think they matched the "feel" of the wedding pretty well... so i think gypsy gave great suggestions and chiffon or georgette tea length work really nicely! http://www.jennyyoo.com/chiffon10.html

Woohoo! Thanks for all the replies! Okay, I agree looks like taffeta is a no-no. It's at 6pm hopefully that will help with the heat. Maybe it'll be like..85 as opposed to 90? Haha. However, my MOH is going to be my Mom. She doesn't want to show her arms, so she wants to wear like an organza jacket or something like that. Which of these/what styles do you think would work for her? She doesn't have to wear the same dress, so we could also just try to find a chiffon dress somewhere else. Do you think that would work? http://www.jasminebridal.com/html/en/web1_b2_3_a.asp?id=152 This is the dress my gals wore - they didn't have the exact perfect color, so they sent my bridal shop samples and then my consultant there found the PERFECT combo - and I think it was only $30 per dress more to do the custom fabric pairing, and ended up being about $185 per dress (not bad!). It's also very figure flattering!! Looked beautiful on my friends. ETA: Sarah, I like that dress VERY MUCH for your mom! My mom wore a dress very similar to that style (rouched at the tummy, v-neck wrap) for the rehearsal and it was very, very flattering. She's petite but round at the waist and sometimes wears a plus size, and it gave her a nice figure and she seemed very comfortable. It's really hard to find tea-length, appropriately formal MOB dresses, and that's definitely a good find!
