"This ring is currently a size 7.00 and can be sized to a 4.50 however the shank might have a slight oval shape to it."

This is what the jeweler wrote. I am not that familiar with settings and I really can't picture exactly what they mean here. Would the ring be uncomfortable on the finger? It is very beautiful but an antique so it would be a real pity to irrepairably damage it, however, the interested purchaser would like to be able to wear it everyday. How would this change the ring visually for the wearer? And for other observers? Does anyone have picture examples of this sort of issue? So are they saying the ring would no longer be round?

I am not sure I would chance it.  I am not too sure what your jeweler is saying but it does sound like it might be an issue.  When I sized my ring they said they were only comfortable sizing it 1 size w/out messing with the intergrity of my particular ring.  I would ask a reputible jeweler.  That is a big jump in size; do you have a picture???

Well you can't post them from something like photobucket or flickr (or whatever it is called, not up those sites).  Save the image to your computer make sure it is under 100kb and then upload it here.

If you can't upload don't worry.  I honestly wouldn't want to resize my ring that much.  I would order it in your size.  We can help you look for something similar if you like!

I am very sorry. I cannot attach the one with a picture of the shank here a file here and apparently the copies do not stay on my messages. I am going to try to send a face up on hand pic (not my hand, by the way) but I don't know if that will tell you much.

Yikes, that's a big ring, intricate setting.  Very pretty I might add.

I wouldn't do it if I were a benchman, maybe you'll find one that will.  I'd be afraid to take it down that much without hurting the integrity of the setting.
