I have a 2.123 I-SI1 "A Cut Above". Perfection. HCA 1.0, perfect light return/fire/scintillation balance.

As I wanted a "mind"-clear VVS diamond, a little bigger and with more (yes, more) body color, I decided to contact Whiteflash. Lesley, so friendly and so FAST, called on the diamond that I liked and 1 day later, today, I already receive pictures!
Whiteflash customer service rocks! And they don't hesitate 1 second when talking about upgrade policy.
Brian called me, he gave an objective and honnest opinion on this diamond.
God what a pleasure to talk with Brian!

First I will attach a picture of my 2.123 I-SI1 as reminder.
After that, pictures talking about my new baby.
Don't hesitate to comment my crazy decision, it won't hurt me.

Any reason not to go with a cleaner ACA?  Can't they cut one for you?

Hi Fly Girl,
I also wanted a warmer color, and ACA are cut so well that my "I" color looks perfectly white to me.
In the new diamond, the light return isn't as good as on the ACA, and it clearly has body color.

Hey QueenMum, I guess I am joining your club.  I wanted something bigger and found an H SI1 2.50 that I am trading in my 2.03 G VS1 ACA diamond for.

I guess great minds think alike!!!

Congrats on the diamond.

...I don't get it. You have a perfect diamond, but you want to upgrade for one that's less perfect?

do you not like the cut on the 2.03 carat? it looks like a great diamond.
is 2.5 carat that much bigger ?  sometimes by changing the setting, the ring will look bigger.
F,VS sounds fantastic

Hey Amers, I am not sure if you were asking me or QueenMum, but I think it was me since I have the 2.03, so to answer your questions-

I love the cut on my ACA, I actually had a chance to  chose between a 2.4 I VS2 ACA and  a 2.5 H SI1 and I went with the H because I felt it was noticeably whiter, plus it scored a 1.1 on the HCA, while the I scored a 1.8. I prefer it when the diamond is closer to 1. My 2.03 scored 1.1 as well.

Also, the day that the stone came in, the vendor increased the price by $2K for the H, but since I was quoted the lower price from the beginning, I am still getting it for the lower price, so it's almost like I am getting it for a bargain.

I don't know if 2.5 is that much bigger, but I always wanted something around the 2.36 mark, so when I found this diamond and the numbers looked great,  it just seemed right.

I originally planned to trade for a 2.73 H SI2, but was unsure about the inclusions .  WF was so nice and let me take my time, but then the vendor  had another buyer for it and I felt that if I was so hesitant to get it from the beginning, it meant that it really was not meant for me.  So, I let it go.

Now I found this other diamond instead.

BTW, I have changed my setting a total of 3 times and the 2 carat still doesn't look big to me. I didn't want to keep changing the setting hoping to get a larger look, and I realized that it was actually going to cost me less for a larger diamond than a brand new setting, that I may or may not change again in the future.

Last, but not least, it is a G, not an F.

i don't know queen mum, for me, i really love the precision and pattern of an H&A diamond...i don't quite like the pattern of the new stone.

however, if it makes your heart pitter patter when you see it, then it's perfect!

I agree. The idealscope on the new stone looks funky to me, as does the picture! Your current stone is gorgeous. Personally, I couldn't go from an Ideal Cut  to a Very Good cut with such a large table. I guess I would have to see it in person before I'd make that leap...

The bottom line, though, is you're the one that has to be happy with it!!!

Sorry Queenmum, but I will have to agree with the others - this is not a decision I would make personally, but hey If yoiu've seen the stone and love it then good for you!
Personally, I would just go down to a J or even a K ideal cut if you're aim is more body colour..I too love the warmer stones, I purchased an ideal I and you're right, there's not a hint of warmth to it..But I don't think I could sacrifice cut for that...
'm not great at these but the IS looks bit strange?
What did Brian say out of interest?

Either way, if you're happy then thats what counts

...I don't get it. You have a perfect diamond, but you want to upgrade for one that's less perfect?

We all agree it's less perfect in it's optical symmetry, but it's still decent.
My ACA is perfectly balanced, even with very diffuse lighting, it's still glowing.

Today, I'm making a compromise.
I am loosing some light return (mostly because of head obstruction), but I win some spread and body color.
I also think this diamond is quite unique, and Brian, who already met me once and knows my taste, think I will like this diamond.

I love the cut of my 2.123 ACA, it is a great diamond.
I live near Antwerp in Belgium, and I'm sure that only 1/1000 diamond or even less is cut as perfectly.
I just want something warmer and a little bigger.

I don't want to change the settings because:
1) I prefer to spend the money on the diamond.
2) I love the setting I have.
3) Being a man, I can't buy a thinner ring that would make the diamond look bigger. And a smaller setting won't be manly anymore.

I also love the H&A pattern, but I never saw it with normal light conditions when I wear it.
Can you see 8 black arrows when wearing a H&A?
But I agree that, even if I don't see the pattern when wearing my diamond, I can feel the precision with my naked eye.

Yes, it does! This stone reminds me of one of the first diamonds that I had, and a lot of good memories.

Yes it does, and I love it.
There are some topics on Pricescope about shallow diamonds and head obstruction.

I couldn't go from an Ideal Cut to a Very Good cut with such a large table.

The table is smaller than 60%, not a big deal for me.
The difference between Sarin (59.2%) and GIA (58%) is big, but I don't worry because Brian didn't see anything suspicious.
And I really trust in Brian.
I love the look of 58%-60% tables.

Thank you arjunajane!
The big amount of black in this IS is caused head obstruction.
It's difficult to tell everything Brian told me when he called, but the global idea was "It's not the kind of diamonds I would wear, but I know you and I think you will be happy with it, this diamond is not a bad diamond."

Stephan, you are a well educated buyer of some years who knows what he wants and prefers. who also understands any potential trade offs that may be made.  Even non superideal diamonds can be beautiful!!!

I wish you lots of luck with your new baby!  Out of interest, is this diamond re - upgradable?

Stephan, I hope you love your new stone!

And I think it would be really interesting and educational if you did a review of the two stones, and gave your observations on the differences in performance. You are in the unique position of personally observing two totally different cuts.

If you are so inclined.

Congratulations on your new stone! Have you posted pictures of your setting in the past? If so, I cannot remember what it looks like and would love to see it!

Here you are!

Stephan, we would really appreciate it, thank you!
