I am noticing some princess cut diamonds with off ratios. Is a diamond that is 1.10 ratio, a no-no for any particular reason? I am looking at a 2.25 princess diamond (dimensions, 7.85x7.13x4.87.) It has a depth of 68.3 % and a table of 65%.

I was really concerned with the ratio difference and how it might affect the performance of the stone.

If you want your stone to be a perfect square you should look for ratios in the range of 1.00 to 1.05. Anything over that and it will be more of a rectangle shape. but it wouldn't affect the diamond's performance I don't think. Good luck!

Aside from the shape, ask for some detailed pics and an ASET image so you can get a better idea of how this diamond may look and potentially perform, these are very useful tools when trying to buy a Princess, as cut quality can't be judged by the numbers so much. ASET info here - http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=73949 ![]() Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse. When a horse dies, the memory lives on because an enormous part of his owner's heart, soul, very existence dies also...but that can never be laid to rest, it is not meant to be... - Stephanie M Thorn |

For best light performance (at least as graded by AGS) by a Princess cut, the Oscar goes to the Square stones!...the more square the better - within a very few %. Of course, square doesn't doesn't guarantee you a best performance - you gotta have the right crown and pavilion angles, right # of pavilion chevrons, etc. |
