http://www.marthastewart.com/paper-roses?lnc=38f9cf380e1dd010VgnVCM1000005b09a00aRCRD Has anyone tried these? I saw someone on another wedding community had put together some arrangements as gifts for her bridesmaids, and they looked SO REAL! I'm considering using them as part of my centerpieces, so I'm going to try to make a couple this weekend. I wonder if you can spray them with a little bit of scent, too - enhance the sensory perception of them? We're planning on getting married on April 25, 2009 (still shopping around for venues though, so we're going to keep things flexible), so I'm a year out now! Hurrah! |

Heck, it's worth a try, and coffee filters are cheap! Good luck, I look forward to seeing your efforts if you choose to post pics!

I saw her kits at Michael's but didn't see the actual flowers. She has a LOT of really nice craft things there now... lots of kits, ribbons, papers, etc. I have done this project recently (not through MS but on my own) and I got a lot of comments on some hibiscus flowers I made out of coffee filters- people thought they were real at first. About spraying them with a scent... the color disperses very easily. I didn't read the MS craft to see how they're done, but I used watercolor pens and lightly sprayed them with water. I'm sure if you sprayed the scent first it would be fine. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |

that is a fantastic idea and they are beautiful! I was wondering what do about flowers as I would like my wedding colors to be white and Delft blue (a dark blue) and I'm not sure of any flowers that come in that color. but now I can make my own! please let me know how your trial goes. I am sure it isn't as easy as it looks. I think I might also try it out this week as a Mother's Day prezzie, provided I can find all the materials.

ok, here is what I've done so far. I was only able to find brown filters at the store and my stem is a skewer and I used normal tape. but this was to try it all out. will buy some water color paint tomorrow (I hope brown filters paint well), paint it and then I guess I have to wait until Tuesday when it's dry to start curling the petals.

So pretty! I almost bought one of Martha Stewart's paper bouquets at Michael's the other day because they look so gorgeous. I can't wait to see what you come up with! ********************************************************** |

Wow, noelwr, that looks great! My own attempt was...hrmmm...ummm...well, let's just say I yelled at FI for looking over my shoulder and errr..."watching me fail". I also called the coffee filter flower petals some rather unpleasant names. After some trial and error, I got something decent looking, but I bought the wrong type of wire, so I'll have to run back to the store to grab the right kind. I also ordered the paper for the leaves, so that should come this week some time. I haven't tried the painting part yet. And is it just me, or does that floral tape make your hands unpleasantly sticky?

well, I've made a few now and my overall opinion is ... meh. The 1st one actually turned out the best (I think because the paint was the thickest so the petals don't go all floppy. anyway, here are 2 photos. think I will give it a skip for the wedding as it's a lot of work. can you believe it, the lady who came up with these is selling them at $20 per rose! she also can make bouquets for weddings. mommymakesroses.com

$20.00 a piece for paper... Mommy who makes roses is crazy... I wonder if she gets many orders at that price ? I guess they are labor intensive,, but that is insane to charge that much

The ones that Noel made - the full rose - is $65, and the 8-9" ones are a whopping $125, now on sale for $100. Even with the wrapping paper and ribbons and all, that's still quite pricey! It does look like a lot of work though. Noel, the ones you made are beautiful! I'm sure your mom will love them!

Noel, those look great! I'm not about to go pay what MMR is charging, BUT I can see how she gets business at that price. She's obviously very practiced at making them quite realistic looking, and like much of the art/craft world the price is for the artist's effort/talent not the materials. What if she made them out of clay, metal or some other material? ********************** |

Noel, you did an awesome job!! I wasn't so sure when I saw the brown coffee filters, but WOW, the end product was awesome. I am wayyyy to ADHD to do those type of projects anymore. I get all excited for about the first few and then I run out of steam. You did awesome job and I'm sure your Mom is going to love, love, love, them...

Those look great! I attending a kind of "crafting for weddings" party last night, and one girl was making peonies from a martha stewart plan. They turned out pretty too, but I saw first hand how long it took to make one! And those weren't even hand painted, she used a colored type of paper, a little thicker than tissue paper! It's a great product, but takes WAY too long to make for me!
