Help everyone!! I'm a little behind on picking a song for my Father/Daughter dance... we don't really have a theme song or anything, so is there anything you have in mind? I DO NOT want to use Butterfly Kisses, because everyone uses it. =P

I'm getting married in 9 days and really need you help! Thanks!

it sucks that it's on the radio now because i've loved it for a while, but what about "I loved her first" by Heartland. :-)

My friend used "Cinderella" which is a new Christian song (on CHristian radio but not neccessarily christian lyrics) and I think I'm going to use "my girl" or "my guy".  I've danced my whole life and I've done 2 "father-daughter" dances to My Girl so I think its appropriate.

My dad is a HUGE country music fan - I remember growing up, he would always sing George Strait's "Baby Blue" to me....ha! I think that's what we'll dance to for sentimental reasons

Another great father/daughter dance choice is "Wonderful World" by the great Louis Armstrong...not cheesy and just the right pace!

my dad insisted on using "my wish" by rascal flats (the wish? a wish? not sure...). i'm not a fan of the band, but the song is more than fitting for a father daughter dance! In fact it's so perfect it will probably become (if it hasn't aready) one of the standard father daughter dance songs i would imagine...

lucy love - Is Butterfly Kisses really that popular and been playing on the radio a lot?  I heard that song 15 years ago when I was in high school and always thought that was the song I wanted to dance with my dad to - I didn't realize it was back in style.  Who is singing it now?

I had never heard of this song until my mom asked me to put it on our wedding play list, and it STILL makes me cry every time I hear it:

My two favorites are My Wish (Rascal Flats) and a new one called Stealing Cinderella. I am torn between those two...

Hi,

I danced to "Because You Loved Me" by Celine Dion with my dad on my wedding day. It was the perfect song because it completely describes the relationship I've had with my dad throughout my whole life- we're extremely close.

There wasn't a dry eye in the room!!

I really liked this thread on non-sappy father/daughter songs, although there are sappy songs on there.

Anyways Loudin Wright's Daughter song is great, it was playing at the end of the movie knocked up.

Interestingly enough, the song for the Father/Daughter dance was one of the hardest ones for me!  Most were kinda sappy, which I didn't want, or not appropriate.  So I went with Frank Sinatra's "The Way You Look Tonight."

Father and Daughter - Paul Simon

I was going to suggest Paul Simon's song too.  I was hoping that my dad and I could dance to that one but then we decided to do the father/daughter and mother/son dance at the same time.  We wanted something fairly short and something that the four of us could dance to, without the song mentioning the daughter or son specifically.  We ended up choosing What a Wonderful World instead.  The Paul Simon song is a great one though!

My dad and I danced to "My Girl," by the Temptations.  It was nice first because of the lyrics, and second because it wasn't super slow.  Every time I hear the song on the radio now (yes, sometimes I listen to the oldies stations) I get all happy-teary-eyed.

Ours was a "parent" dance (DH danced with his mom at the same time), so it was really hard to find a suitable song. DH and I had been planning on dancing to "Yours" by Sara Gazarek, but then at the last minute, we decided to dance to "When She Dances" by Joe Bonamassa instead and moved "Yours" to our parent dance. Both artists are relatively obscure (well known in their genres, but the vocal jazz and blues aren't really mainstream), but worth looking into, even if it's just for some good tunes :)
