Hi everyone, I was wondering if I could solicite your advice on my situation.

Last summer I bought a diamond and had a custom setting made by Whiteflash in preparation for proposing to my girlfriend. However, not long after she began having major changes in her life and while I tried to hold out hope this made a future impossible. I figure my best move is to sell the diamond back to Whiteflash at there 70% rate but what to do with the setting? I'm not looking to recover a high % of my cost but would a place like Whiteflash pay for the weight of the 18k gold setting? I know I'll ask on Monday but just thought I'd try to be prepared. I would like to get a few hundred for it and give the money to a charity but should I even expect that much? Maybe I should just send it in the mail to a charity and me done with it:) I'm honestly lost trying to figure out what to do with a setting which I just don't want.

Thank You,
J

I can't answer your question but I just wanted to say I'm sorry things didn't work out for you and your girlfriend.

pearlmans has a whiteflash setting in their consignment section now so if you can't work out something with WF you might try them.

I second vote trying to put it on consignment with Pearlman's. Another option you could try if all else fails is selling it on ebay.

Wow! What quick answers.

mrssalvo & kroshka - I will contact Pearlman's and give that avenue a chance. Thank you!

Maisie - I appreciate your comment. The truth is God saved us from a potentially miserable life. It took a while to get over the disappointment but as I began being happy with life once again great things are happening

Consignment is your best bet. Talk with Pearlmans to see what you could get for the setting with or without the center stone. I dont recommend selling the setting for the value of the gold. I cant say what whiteflash will give you for their own setting, but most jewelers will only give you the value of the gold simply based on the weight. I have had a few girlfriends in your shoes try and get rid of the mens wedding bands that they end up not needing, and the most they were offered was $20-30. All else fails try craigslist.

why not keep the stone and ring for the next "special girl"......

it probably will not be your last .......

A WORD OF ADVICE - don't tell any of these girls it was bought originally for another girl..... kinda like telling a girl she looks fat

I don't think that this is a very good idea at all

And this is quite rude!
it probably will not be your last .......

To the original poster, I am sorry that things did not work out for you.

PMP, you are an extremely rude person. I have noticed some underhanded and sarcastic comments you have made on a number of threads now, despite the fact you have been helped and embraced by the PS community to no end since joining.

If this is your attitude towards women than I feel concerned for your own relationship.

I'm all for free speech etc, but there is also alot to be said for Manners, and I will tell you now that PS'ers do not appreciate bad ones such as yours. Please do us a favour and think before you post.

Well said Jane, we don't need to make our Noobies feel like they are being judged here, the OP just came for some advice, not attitude.

I'm glad you listened to Him and moved on.  Some people don't and are very unhappy.  I am sure there are great things ahead for you!!!
