Hello,
Just wondering if we had any other Aussie here......

You Americans are so lucky!!!!

Australian prices are very very very high!!!!

I posted details about my recent purchase and I was virtually LAUGHED OFF THE SITE!!!!!

To recap..... I paid AU$10,000- for a Platinum ring with 1.01 VS2 I-J ring......

HOWEVER......
When I was shopping around this was the comparison....

Tiffany & Co (VERY HIGH QUALITY STORE) - Platinum 1.01ct VVS2 I A$15,600-
Hardy Brothers (just under Tiffany in reputation - but very well regarded) - white gold 1ct SI1 H $10,000-
Wallace Bishops (middle of the road jeweller) - white gold 1ct P1-P2 J-K $5400-
Michael Hill (low class jeweller) - white gold 1ct SI1 (but i thought P2) I $5995-

I chose an independant bench jeweller - got a hand made platinum ring, 1.01ct VS2 I-J $10,000-

Maybe I paid too much.... but in Australia this is the price...!!!!

HI PMP
I'm in Australia and there are a number of other aussies that are regular contributors here.
I have often lamented the price of diamonds and gold here and jewellery in general...fortunately though I decided to never buy expensive rings etc here. I purchased my e-ring o/seas and have just made a new purchase of a ring over the internet from the US with the help of PS. Couldn't be happier with the help and the prices /product.
I'm sorry to hear you're not happy with your purchase - I'm guessing because its custom you can't return it and try again?
At least now you now for any future purchases where to come!
Do you have any pics of the ring to post? It still sounds nice!

Hiya pmptrading,

I am an Aussie on here too...and another bloke.

Sorry to hear that you are a bit unhappy with the ring you got the Mrs. I think the best thing now is to take it back and get the jeweller to put his mark on it. Tell everyone you have a custom "Bob the Jeweller" or whatever his name was

At the end of the day did it make your lady happy when she saw it? If so just think of the mastercard ad...priceless! Value is all relative and anyone here would trade some metal and stone (any ring) for some food if they hadn't eaten for a week!

I hope you don't get put out by the responses to your first thread. The ladies here have the best intentions (most of the time ) and would leave most of the guys gasping in a shop-off, the text can make things a little dry sometimes though so don't take it to heart.

Hope to see you around...read the articles etc here and you'll be full bottle for when you want to wow your wife again

Hi there! I'm Aussie, too! I'm in Sydney and my BF and I are waiting to have our ring custom made.

For $9000AU, this is what we got:

MAIN STONE:
1.06 ct cushion
E colour
VS2
VG symmetry
VG Polish
66 table
66 depth
6.16 x 6.0mm

SETTING:
HANDMADE Tiffany Legacy style platinum setting w/ 0.72ct pave diamonds (all E VS2)

TOTAL CARAT WEIGHT: 1.78

We did not go to a retail jeweller - we went to a diamond wholesaler and custom jeweller.
I don't think I was ripped off because I have an elaborate setting with more diamonds... and I have an E colour which is PRICEY!

It pays to go to a wholesaler - delphidiamonds.com.au

I saw your ring on your other thread though and I think it's beautiful - if she loves it, it's priceless! :)

...sorry mine is white gold - not platinum (I think I was day dreaming!).

I think the platinum setting hikes the price up a bit!

Anyway looks like you got a good quality, handmade ring with a pretty stone... I wouldn't lose sleep over it. I think it's worth it.

Oh my... I have to tell you that when I was living in NZ, I saw a Michael Hill brochure & popped in to one of their stores to see this 1ct diamond solitaire they were advertising for about $3000NZD.

Yike.

It was really white. Literally.

Almost totally opaque - most incredible bit of frozen-spit effect dimaond I have EVER seen!

Needless to say I ran in the other direction. Fast. :)

No, I've been back in England for the last 18 months, but going back to NZ on the 25th May so I will look forward to seeing them when I get there. :)

It's funny because when you are new to a country you have no idea about the reputation of shops you've never heard of: so I didn't know that they weren't exactly considered to be retailers of fine jewellery. It was also pre-PS too. :)

Yup - i totally know where you're coming from. I'm sure if I came to London I'd pick The worst stores to look at without even knowing it!

OP I read your other thread and you were not laughed off the site at all. You also didn't put you were Australian in your original post so everyone here assumed you paid 10k US price for a 1ct J stone. No one was mean or laughing at you at all.

Hi pmp welcome

I was in a US Tiff's and saw a 1.11 I/vs1 for 15,200.  Sounds like they keep their pricing fairly even no matter the country.

Don't worry, we have all purchased diamonds pre-PS

But now when the upgrade comes around..........
