We are having a sit-down meal. We're having a very small wedding. To be served with wine during a "cocktail hour" (we're doing wine only--a red pour and a white pour) Hot Crab and Lobster Dip Served with Pita Chips and Crackers Creamy Pamlico Crab and Lobster with Dijon Mustard, White Wine, and Spices Bruschetta Caprese Roma Tomatoes, Fresh Mozzarella, Roasted Garlic, Basil, Extra Virgin Olive Oil First course: Guests choice of Traditional Caesar Salad Romaine Hearts, Garlic Croutons, Parmesan, Housemade Dressing Creamy Tomato Soup Basil, Garlic, and a touch of Spice Main Course: Guests choice of Broiled Wild Alaskan Salmon Filet Topped with Cucumber, Tomato, and Spanish Herb Salsa Chili Grilled Shrimp Skewers Pineapple, Chorizo, Roasted Garlic Cilantro Butter Pan Seared All Natural Ashley Farm’s Chicken Breast Pesto Cream Sauce with Fresh Basil and Parmesan ETA: Most of our guests are family, and we are seafood lovers, so that's why 2 options are seafood. The chicken is there for my sister-in-law and a couple of others who are not seafood people. ETA: We are also having a champagne toast, but we are saving a bit of money by going with a nice Prosecco instead of champagne. The name is Anime Pink. The venue gave me a bottle to try at New Years, and I thought the color was beautiful and festive, and it was delicious. Our venue is providing coffee service, and of course there will be wedding cake! That's it for dessert.

Oh my goodness...YUMMMMM DITTO! DITTO! I am not a dessert person. I'm one of those weird people who does not like chocolate and who can just walk right by sweets. BUT, ten years ago, I was on my first trip to New Orleans with a former BF. He got reservations at Brennan's and we got that for dessert. Oh. My. God. I could have died right there. The banannas are flambe'd (set on fire) and it carmelizes the sugar and the banannas and burns off the alcohol in the booze and the whole thing is just......it's better than sex. Now, I don't like ice cream all that much, either, but poured over vanilla ice cream....Mmmmmmmmmm! And to this day, it's my favorite. I've made it at home a bunch of times, but it's never as perfect as Brennan's. I swear - if I was on Death Row, that would be my last meal. In massive quantities. Bridget in Connecticut.. ![]() |

I want to do a cocktail-style reception but with substantial food, not just a bunch of appetizers....so I need lots of ideas! Bee* -- thanks for posting that link. Going to check it out now.

It's a limited tasting though, so it's chef's choice of entrees. There are a lot of things that sound good on the list... but I need to see what they taste like IRL. Only thing I KNOW for sure we are having is the Gold alcohol package (plus a case of champagne) and the salad: "Heirloom Tomato Caprice - fresh mozzarella, basil, & tomatoes with olive oil & crostini" and the cocktail hour displays: Antipasto – provolone, ham, brie, roasted garlic, olives, pepperoncini, tomato & crostini…$5 Cheese Board – a selection of cheeses from around the world with grapes, & crackers… We are warring over appetizers: I want the scallops, he hates scallops. I don't think anyone will other than us will eat carpacio or quail, which leaves us with crab cakes, and I am very picky crab cakes (too much STUFF not enough crab at most places). Entrees are completely up in the air. At least we have a cake agreed too!

Gosh, I just LOVED our wedding food. The catering company did a fantastic job (and they were SO friendly!) Let's see we had a lovely cocktail hour and plated dinner: Passed hors d'oeuvres Pecan chicken salad in little fancy pie crust things (sorry, I don't know the fancy names) (We chose these with my mom in mind) Smoked Salmon on little toast things (we selected these with my dad in mind) Baked brie and shitake mushroom wraps Salads Greens with cranberries, pecans, shredded cheese, and vinegarette dressing Main dish. The guests chose from: Filet of Beef in a red wine reduction with twice baked mashed potatoes and asparagus Pecan encrusted chicken with twice baked mashed potatoes and asparagus Crispy Salmon in a lemon creme sauce with mushrooms and sweet potatoes and asparagus and Chicken tenders and twice baked mashed potatoes for the kids (and a few kid-at-heart adults) Of course we gave a few guests green beans instead of asparagus b/c the preferred it that way. The caterers prepared DH and me a plater of all 3 entrees to share. That was a nice touch. Desert: 500 passed chocolate dipped strawberries (one of my very favorite treats! I almost could have done without cake altogether) Wedding Cake (Alternating layers of white cake with pastry creme and white with strawberry paster cream) Grooms Cake (Chocolate with butter cream chocolate frosting and filling and belgium chocolate mosaic pieces) "The absence of flaw in beauty is itself a flaw." |
