I live and am getting married in Chicago.  I have yet to find a reasonable photographer and videographer.  Someone told me to check on craigslist.com for them but I'm kind of nervous about that.  There are so many con artist out here that I'm scared to take the risk.  Is anyone getting married in Chicago?  If so who's did you hire for your wedding pictures and video?

You might want to shoot over to WeddingBee.com. There's a few Chicago bloggers there that talk about who they used as a photographer. Also they have knottie bios each week and they'll probably have a few Chicago weddings there. Just a thought.

Hi CoreysGirl,

I'm a Chicago bride too! Getting married in late summer.

Our videographer is reasonable: Sure Shot Productions, Google for the website. I think we are paying $1300 for a two videographer/three camera package (it is the ultra deluxe on the website). We searched extensively for someone reasonable and this was the best we came up with. Haven't had the wedding yet so all I can say now is that they were eager to help and easy to deal with so far.

We love our photographer, but they aren't exactly reasonable ($5000+) -- Pret a Poser.

Hope this helps!

I'm a Chicago bride. We're using RB Photo and Video, they're located way out in the suburbs but they do a lot of Chicago weddings. They're really wonderful, we met with a lot of photographers and ultimately chose them.

We booked them at their 2007 pricing, so photography will be $1500 for ten hours, one photographer, unlimited shots, full copyright on digital negatives, multiple locations, etc.

The videography costs $1795 for the package we chose. I don't remember what it includes, but it is one of four packages.

I highly recommend them (from what we've seen so far.) Our wedding is in July so I'll post the pics then!

If you call them, tell them Lori and Howie referred you (July 4th wedding)

Wow, that is super affordable for Chicago. When we considered getting married in Chicago, we were looking and found that "affordable" seemed to be around $3500 for 8 hrs of coverage. I'm a bride... in Chicago... just not getting married here anymore, in Europe, so I am sorry I am not able to offer any real advice, Coreysgirl. I did research on my own, but also used the local knot boards to see what pictures were posted from other peoples weddings to narrow down when we started asking for prices, it may be a good place to look.

I would recommend David Suarez: http://www.davesuarez.com although I have not used him personally.

Good luck!

We used Sight and Sound Productions from Tinley Park.  In 2003, we paid $800 up front ($100 deposit, $700 due a month before wedding), and two months post-wedding paid $2k for our album and all of our proofs which came in a great spiral bound book.  We were also give a free engagement sitting, which we never did end up using.

Also, Fender and Donisch in Downers Grove or Lockport, and Tim Whaley in Lisle were two of my other top contenders.  I was good friends with the wife of Fender (of Fender and Donisch) and while they are pretty expensive, they are also top notch.  HTH!  If you need any other details let me know.

P.S.--hey Blue, how are ya?!
