I was just at the jewelers today looking at a custom setting for my diamond pendant.  The manager there was super nice and spent over an hour to understand what I wanted and made some great suggestions.  When I asked whether he'd recommend 14K or 18K white gold for the setting, he said their store uses only 19K white gold.

He said that the 19K WG is gold mixed with nickel alloy which gives it the WG color throughout the metal and it would not need to be rhodium-plated like 14K or 18K.  Additionally, the alloy mix makes the metal very strong.

I'd have to admit that this is the first time I've heard of 19K WG.  Does others here have 19K WG jewelry or have come across it in research?  What do you think?

Thanks!

A lot of people. And I MEAN A LOT OF PEOPLE have nickle allergies. As for the 19K... some designers use it instead of 18K... for me, I'd rather have a paladium alloy, as it doesn't need to be re-plated AND it's less likely to inspire allergies.

It is not that simple Gypsie. See this post http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=81981

I doubt more than a few % of people ever have allergy reactions to Ni WG, but you can not set diamonds into nickel white golds - they are too hard to bend and raise grains for setting etc. But they do wear well.
