Does anyone think a 0.50 carat pear-cut diamond pendant is too small?

Coloratura Rough Rock Total Posts: 65 Last Post: 5/4/2009 Member Since: 7/17/2007	It's "E" in color and "VS" in clarity. It's priced at 2,500.00. Do you think I'd be better off buying a larger diamond , would 1/2 carat even show up as a pendant? Thanks!

The thing is, the cut is so important and we really can't tell without pictures. Ask the vendor if they could take some pics to email you, then you could post them here. Also an ASET image is very useful for pears if you can get one. Unless you are absolutely set on E colour and VS clarity ( I take it this pear is GIA graded?) then you could drop the colour certainly even up to around a G or H, and it should look very white, and the clarity to an eyeclean SI grade. Just make sure you and the vendor understand each other with your personal definition of ' eyecleanliness' should you consider an SI clarity. This could get you a larger diamond, just make sure the cut is as good as you can get. I love the idea of a half carat pear pendant...please post pics if possible! I have a .40 RB halo'd pendant that I love...by no means does it not "show up" on my neck. It's the first item listed and the item number is 66217. When one clicks on the image another window will pop up that shows the item slightly bigger and , to me , it looks more like an oval-cut diamond. I think dimensions are very important with pears because I see a lot of pears that look like weapons! lol I prefer fat-bottom , gentle-looking pears. I'll probably pass on this one as it's not really "unique" in the sense that I wouldn't be able to find something similar. With each post I learn so much from you ladies. I don't know if I'd say that I'm "new" to the boards , I joined some time last year but , I haven't really posted since when I first joined so it's nice to be meeting some of you. (I peruse the forum all the time , though.)

I like the idea of a pear-cut diamond pendant but , whilst posting I think I talked myself out of it. lol In some ways it looks a little oval-ish. The size seems like it would be ok but , I think if it were between 0.80-2.0 carats I'd prefer it. I wouldn't want it to be monsterously big because that would take away from the delicacy of it. I joined some times last year but I've only posted a few times so , it's nice to meet some of you.

They mention that they're selling it for half of what Tiffany's sold it . The description doesn't mention the gia or Tiffany report. I've seen a lot of Tiffany's estate/vintage pieces on the web and they usually seem very expensive. I'm sure a Tiffany's piece is of outstanding quality but , I also wonder whether the mark-up in price is because of the Tiffany name.

So try to find out if this is an actual Tiffany piece if you can, and if it has a GIA or Tiffany report. I had another look at the pendant ( assuming that is the one you would actually receive) and the diamond really does look like an oval to me....If it is an authentic Tiffany with papers, then I think you can assume that is why the markup. I'm going to have to think about it for a little longer before I decide. I'm leaning towards passing on it because of how oval-ish it looks. If you want a pear, then that one doesn't look like it is.
