This is my actual house.  This was definately our dream starter home.  In 6 or 9 years we'll want something bigger with more yard but right now for just the two of us and our animals...this is our dream home :)

Beautiful houses ladies! J & I love living in the city (Chicago) so having a house proper is PROHIBITIVELY expensive. Unless one of us robs a bank or something. I'm looking @ a duplex or a town home. But that would of course be AFTER I sell my place now. But we can always dream....

I'm so jealous of the yard space... So is my poochie. But there's a couple of dog parks here that she can run around and play in. But y'know still not the same... One day, some day :)

Real estate is ridiculously expensive in my area, so I rent as opposed to own. My BF and I have been discussing putting an addition and doing a remodel of his house, but that's still in the discussion stage. I have often said that when my son grows up and I am 50+, I am definately moving to New Mexico. If I lived out in NM or TX or CO or AZ, the house on the left is what I'd like. That house is called an Earthship. The outside is made from adobe or clay, and it's made to be self-sustaining. Has its own solar, generator and water collection - you could live way in the middle of nowhere and have power and water without paying the electric or water company, ever. YouTube has an amazing, short video from a special that was done on them (jaw-dropping eye candy): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TbxhpG-Y4Q

Having said that, I am stuck in this state for at least 10 more years, until my son is 18. If I ended up not moving in/settling down with my BF, I would like to buy a small Craftsman style bungalow, like the one on the right. I'm not materialistic and love small spaces - your typical bungalow is about 1000 sq feet. One went up for sale in the town next to where I work....and I went to look at it......which was dumb on my part.......it sold for $325K, which is about 2x what I can afford.

Yeah. Real estate in Connecticut is over-inflated. But a girl can dream, right?

Bridget in Connecticut.

Ooh Bridget I love the craftsman style! That would be my favorite too. Actually my dream house is 1/2 a mile from BF's parents' house. 2 story, wrap around porch (the kick-ass factor), big front yard on a private-ish street. Everytime we drive by I stare at it.

Too bad it's probably worth about $800,000...

I wish we could afford a house right now! We live in Southern California, so it's basically impossible to even dream about it. In a couple of months we're moving up to Portland, OR, though. We're hoping to save up enough for a down payment and get a starter home in 2-3 years.

*Sigh* We definitely discuss dream homes more than engagement rings--we went to a kitchen decor store today and looked at granite colors. He's just as bad as I am!

Hot chocolate butterflies dance through my heart and tell me you're the one.
Come take a sip of this so I can look into your beautiful eyes and say,
"Ouch! I spilled some on my lap, burning my leg, but I don't mind. I'm with you."

Sandia Rose, I love your taste in houses!  The first one is sustainable and I think it's great (and good for the environment) and the Craftsman is scrumptious.

I was once told by one of my Interior Design instructors that you are always attracted to houses like your childhood home.  It becomes your dream house.  For me that's true, I grew up in a craftsman and today I love them!  Not sure if what he says is true for everyone though.
