I need more padding!

lucy love Cut Rock Total Posts: 131 Last Post: 6/18/2009 Member Since: 3/22/2008	I bought my dress a while ago (few weeks after we got engaged) and got it from a shop that was going out of business. It's used, but I am completely fine with that because it only cost me $200, and it's gorgeous! The only problem I have is that I don't have enough chest to fill it out. =( My grandma is a seamstress and used to make wedding dresses. She doesn't think it's a good idea to take in the sides, because of the intricate bead and lace work from the waist up. It would only have to be about a half inch on both sides... but she says no. so i guess it's no! so! my only option now is to figure out how i'm going to fill it out. i don't want it to be obvious that i'm stufing my bra (like the olden days!), and i don't want anything to show from under my dress! Any suggestions?! here's a picture of me wearing my dress... Captured by his heart...

Most welcome! Some seem to have had good results, so you could always give a pair a test run in normal clothes to see how you like them! To make the look more "real", you might also consider body tape which will hold the dress close to you and can be used to push the girls together to further add cleavege.

Sewing pads into the dress won't hurt the dress at all. They would be sewn in by hand and could be easy to remove if you wanted to sell the dress later or anything like that. I used to alter wedding gowns too and we did it all the time. If you don't plan to wear a bra with the dress pads are your best option. If you were planning on wearing foundation anyway then the inserts work wonders and could be used for other occasions too.

I would get the push-up things that have adhesive and are attached to you. There are a lot of items out there you can buy. What ever you have of your own can be pushed up so something shows on top and filled in on the bottom of your breast. You may have to look around to find these types of under garments but movie stars and women with partial mastectomies use all sorts of enhancements. Your dress is beautiful!! The beading is gorgeous.

I would worry about adhesive or taping anything because of sweat, and anything sewn to the dress would move with the dress. The silicone "chicken cutlets" are soft and enhance your natural assets because they lift them up and fill them out without looking "stuffed". I've seen them at Nordstrom and Macy's if you're worried about buying online. I think most bridal shops have them too, but they are probably more expensive there. This is a VERY common issue! I had mine taken in a bit but the beading wasn't quite as elaborate.

And I would NOT want something taped to me, that would annoy me all night and I would probably end up taking them off at some point and then the secret would be out since my chest would be totally deflated!!! hahaha

Your dress has just as much beading as mine does and my seamstress was able to bring in the top of my dress 1/2 inch on each side. She charged me a bit extra because all of the beading, but I just got it back yesterday and you can't even tell. It fits perfectly now. I might suggest seeing whether someone else could take it in for you.

lucy love Cut Rock Total Posts: 131 Last Post: 6/18/2009 Member Since: 3/22/2008	wow thanks everyone! i do have a bustier that i bought to wear with the dress. only thing is that since my neckline is a deep dip sweetheart neck, i can see the top of it when i look down! i know this is normal, and my mom and grandma assure me others won't see it. but i think they will! my grandma is kind of strong willed and so i'm not sure if she'll agree to let me take the dress out of the house and to another place to get altered. i have to catch her at a good time and ask her. =) i have the adhesive bra, mine's from GAP. i need something that would add cup size though so maybe i'll go with the silicone inserts. =/ definitely ruling out sewing pads in now. boobs moving with the dress would be worse than people seeing my bra. haha! To address the padding issue, you could get a bustier for plunging necklines and then add the silicone inserts. that way you don't have to worry about showing. First buy the silicone inserts and then get fitted for a bustier with those puppies in there. Good luck.

I always joked that I would have her put cups in all of my clothes!!!...I'm scared of implants, but cups sounds safe...lol She actually had the cups and I tried them on before she sew them...just to make sure it didn't look like I was wearing socks in there!!!. I suggest just going to a seamstress and asking, you may have a cheap and great solution! :) M~

I lost 7 lbs. the week before my wedding due to being sick, stressed, and overworked...suddenly I had no boobs, it was awful. Also, my mom had to take my dress in at the bustline two nights before our wedding. Fortunately she's a pretty good amateur seamstress or that might have been disastrous. In some pics, you can still tell that I was a little lacking in the bust area, but for the most part I look natural in pics due to the boning in my gown.
