Don't know what to do

Okay so I finally have the ring/rings of my dreams for my wedding set 100% happy with the way it looks. I am now debating if I should solder them together.

Here is what is going through my head

CON of soldering

I like knowing I have "2" rings
I like that sometimes they separate and have a gap, but I know they sit flush.
Sometimes they "jingle" when they go back together
The slight ring spin on the wedding band doesn't bother me, if the diamonds don't line up exactly, gives me a reason to look at my ring and line them up
They are sized just right at this point, and it was very hard to get the perfect size for me. If I solder them together I will have to resize them larger first, which I am very very nervous about.

PRO of soldering

The appraiser said that over the years the sides of the channel will wear down and have to be fixed, if they are soldered this won't happen
Sometimes the diamonds on the wedding band wind up on the bottom where I might smack them on something.
I don't wear the wedding band separate.

I seriously would not worry about it at all. my set will have a 3-sided pave e-ring next to a one-sided pave band. i like the look, sure the metal of the wedding band is going to suffer some wear and tear but it's worth it to me. ----------------------------- A deal is only a deal if you are getting exactly what you want.

I admit, I've never understood the reason behind soldering rings together. I also wouldn't worry about the wear and tear, it's not going to be significant. DON'T SOLDER! PLEASE! They are still shinny on the sides that touch too, so I don't know exactly how much rubbing is going on. She did say it would take a while before they would wear down.

I don't think I could ever get their beautiful looks, mine ering is channel set, not a solitare or pave which lends itself to so many beautiful "mates", but I wanted princess sides....

Makes little sense to me. Channel set against channel set or plain band isn't going to really wear significantly, IMO. What I AM hearing is basically that your rings dont fit you properly and probably need some touch up sizing to remedy the situation. There's no reason why your rings should be making any "jingle" noises, even if they're slightly loose. My ering is a bit loose in very cold weather but I certainly dont hear it jingling against my other band. And if you have a half eternity wband that spins around to the point where the stones are underneath your finger, then the ring doesn't fit you properly as it shouldn't be doing that. I wore a half band for many years and it never once ever spun around. I think you need to have your rings sized a tiny bit so they fit better...I wouldn't solder them though...I think you'll regret it if you do.

I wear a shared prong set and they were designed to avoid the dreaded diamond nibbling problem. I have them checked periodically and there is no problem. However, when I recently sent my new set back to Signed Pieces to have a different head put on it, the sales person asked me why I had soldered them together and assured me that there would be no problems with durability if they were unsoldered. He reminded me how much more flexibility I'd have if they weren't soldered, so I went ahead and gave him the okay to do it. ImpatientOne

They jingle when they slide up my finger (to the knuckle when my hands are cold) and fall back down. The wedding ring isn't constantly on the underside of my finger, but sometimes it idoes wind up there. They are sized as small as I can size them and still have them fit. I have to work a little to get them off, but I like them a little tight to get on (once they are on over the knuckle they are fine). Like I said I did have issues getting them to the right size.

sugar Ideal Rock Total Posts: 693 Last Post: 11/5/2009 Member Since: 6/11/2007	hi sparkles- don't solder your rings. a friend of mine had hers soldered together and ended up regretting it big time. like others have mentioned, it's nice to have the option to wear different bands and also to just wear your wband alone when you feel like it or when you're traveling, etc. not soldering definitely gives you more options. as far as wear and tear, i think with channel set rings you won't have any big issues.
