We've just finally got this sorted out: a set of first editions for step-dad, custom cut Jeff White spessartite for mom. http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=80938

Are you giving mom and dad a gift on your wedding day? If so what will you give?

I've been thinking about this.  First, I want to say that I LOVE the spess you got for your mom.  It's gorgeous!

My sister and her husband live across the country from us (our parents and my FI and I).  On their wedding day a year and a half ago, they gave us all airline gift cards so we could use them when we want to visit.  I thought that was a great idea and a very thoughtful one.

My FI and I are hoping to send my parents to a B&B somewhere maybe on the coast of Maine.  There's a particular B&B that they've gone to and loved before, so I'd like to send them there if possible.  I'm not sure what we'll do for my FI's parents.  They're extremely hard to buy for and going away for a weekend isn't something they'd really enjoy.

I'll let you know if I come up with any other ideas.

Oh yeah, one thing we'll probably do is give each set of parents a copy of our wedding album.  We may wait until Christmas though and consider it their Christmas gifts.  We'll see.

Still thinking about that one...

I'm getting the mothers (and future step-monster-in-law) antique silver flower holder brooches. You put a few drops of water in and they hold a boutonniere.

I would love to buy my mother a really nice stone - she loves blue sapphires (sadly my bank manager has a pathological dislike of all gemstones. ), but I'm planning on one of them for her 60th next year - so I'm on the hunt for something else.

I'll probably get FI's mother a pair of amethyst earrings - with the killer siberian stuff if I can find it.

Fathers are a nightmare - my father would probably like a packet of cabachon gemstones for his jewellery course (oh, my ulterior motives ) - but FFIL ...

I'm doing those Wedding Album Books - a larger one for my parents, FFIL & FMIL, and a smaller one for the 4 sets of grandparents.

I was thinking of giving them a wedding album or a DVD of the wedding. Is that a bad gift?

I think its a good idea, esp if they are paying or contributing to the bill. Since we'll be footing the bill on our own I was thinking about putting together a nice wedding album (I scrapbook) complete from childhood to now. My parents always like that sort of thing.

We made a big wedding album a few months after for each set of parents and gave them that. That is what they really wanted, I swear DH's mom totes her album around everywhere!

We gave them their presents at the RD. Both moms got mother's necklaces from RedEnvelope (I think my mom hasn't taken it off since). We have mu FIL a money clip from Tiffany's and my dad a gift card to his favorite wine store (he is IMPOSSIBLE to buy for).

We footed the bill for our wedding, but still thought it would be nice to give a gift for our parents just to thank them for their support. We just got them gift certificates to nice restaurants.

Both sets of parents offered to pay for a portion of our wedding, but we told them we'd rather see them spend it on themselves (something neither set of parents EVER does) and we were really happy that they did--my parents took a nice trip to Hawaii and his parents used the money to replace the windows in their home.

Good timing indy...
We are racking our brains for a gift for my dad and his FI.  He is paying for the wedding, and she has stepped up way beyond the call of duty to help me plan this thing!
We are also trying to figure out a gift for my brother who is our officiant.
We wanted to send dad and fi on a golf weekend, but sadly, business is slow for me right now, so we need to scale back on the gift budgets.
I love all these ideas, I'll be checking back for more

the last thing that either of our parents need is stuff. what i want to do for them is make them both custom albums of the wedding pics combined with casual pics of FI and I growing up with our families. They will each get their own book and i think it will be special for them since it will be customized and it will give them something to show people if they want. i really cant wait to do it!

We're going to get both the mothers and father's gifts but we're not sure what yet. Possibly a weekend away or something like that.

We didn't give any gifts to our parents. We also didn't give any gifts to each other. We were really stretched on our wedding budget and I couldn't think of anything they would want that wouldn't be cheap looking. My parents came to London for our wedding and we spent a fair amount of money covering various activities and dinners for them as they always do for us when we visit the US. We felt that was good enough in our situation. We don't tend to be big gift people.

We're probably going to get a wedding picture framed for them. I don't think we could afford anything fancier than that.
