This pic to give you an idea of size... it's 1.89 cts. Gives you an idea of my wrinkly hands while we're at it. Two in one!

To give you an idea of what I was thinking in terms of a setting to suggest to mom. East-west pendant designed to sit in the small of the neck....maybe a little lower than in this pic. What do you think? Obviously, I would take it out of the box before setting it. (hahaha). And what colour gold would you use?

OK, show's over! Isn't it amazing what this pebble does with light? I was wearing my Tiffany garnet today, and it was just embarrassed next to this one.

Hey Marcy,

This is the stone I'm giving to my mom. I'm going to let her decide how to set it, but I'm going to suggest an E/W pendant set high... see the pic above with my neck in it.

ETA: Thanks Marcy! Any thoughts about what colour gold?

Lol!

Actually, that's not far off from my "I have to have this" sign.

If I get the overwhelming feeling that I want to suck it like a boiled sweetie, then I know it's for me!

God, imagine if you really did swallow one!

ETA: I vote for white gold.

WOW, it's simply scrumptious!! It would definitely pop with white gold but I'm also thinking it might look pretty cool set in YG or RG. Ack, I'm no help at all!

Gorgeous!!! I think yellow gold would be great if your mom wears yellow gold. I wouldn't do it if she wears all white metals, though.  I love the idea of a pendant, but I really don't like pendant chains shorter than 16", personally.  I'd probably set it NS with a little round diamond at the bail!  But it will be beautiful any way you set it!

If she wears white do a two tone setting.

Thanks for the suggestions and good wishes everyone! Great idea about the two-tone. My mom mostly wears white gold, but not exclusively. The country she lives in is a 'yellow gold' country. It's what most people wear there, I guess partly because a lot of people there have darker skin tones.

Linda it really does sparkle like crazy! It's totally wild. My garnet was feeling so dull and ashamed next to it.

Gorgeous color in that stone, IG!   For some reason, I immediately thought of a cage setting for this stone.   It has such a bright color that it'll be like a little juicy drop sitting in that cage.

This stone is so pretty.  I love Jeff's work so much.  I certainly understand wanting to eat it!  It's like a juicy piece of gum - I just gotta swallow it right when it hits my mouth!

I would mount it in YG.  I like spessartite in both WG and YG but I think it looks richer in YG.  Either way your mother will love it.

Beautiful orange color!!  It also looks like it's a perfect size for a pendant!  I can't wait to see what you do with it!

Wow, that is a beautiful stone!  I picture it in a three stone ring, set in YG prongs with WG shank and white gold prongs on the diamond sides .
