The SD Police Historical Association is always involved. This year, we had several vintage vehicles, including our 1935 Paddy wagon. :) We met a group of Corrections Officers from Dublin, Ireland who come every two years to the states to be involved with our celebrations. Two years ago, they were in NYC, they admitted its a lot nicer here and warmer- like their summers in Ireland.. brrrrrrr.. LOL

What a nice group of people. They told us the prison they work at was built by the British in 1850, they still have no toilets in the building- the convicts (their term) still use chamber pots they have to empty themselves. It was interesting to hear what they told us, to say the least. lol

(You can see our "convicts" making faces in the Paddy wagon window. lol)

Happy Early St. Patty's!!!  Wow, that is neat for those Officers to come from Ireland; that paddy wagon is so cool!!!  You and Mr. SDL look wonderful; you are such a pretty lady Michelle!  Love that you are decked out in your green; smart thinking, no pinches for you. lol

Oh wow! You've met the Mountjoy prison guards!!!!

You know Mountjoy actually does have plumbing for toilets in every cell? It's had them since the late 1800's but the prisoners found a way to block them up as a form of protest so they took them out and have never put them back in. That prison is a disgrace. The prisoners are actually suing for human rights violations and the government has no defence (slopping out is considered inhuman and degrading treatment by the European Court of Human Rights). Nonetheless the State is claiming it's done nothing wrong

So the parades are on today here so every medium sized town in Ireland is blocked off and traffic is chaotic. There's not a politician left in the country because apparently it's a wonderful 'marketing opportunity' so they all have to go abroad for the celebrations in other places. And tonight will have the highest number of public order arrests for the whole year because people will go out and 'drown the shamrock'. Ah, gotta love Paddy's Day in Ireland

Actually I think I'm gonna start a thread, find out the much more fun ways people celebrate Paddy's Day outside Ireland!!!
