Flush sittng ering and wband scratching..?

horing Rough Rock Total Posts: 1 Last Post: 3/2/2008 Member Since: 3/2/2008	Hi, I recently changed my ering setting from six prong tiffany solitaire style to princess cut channel set ering and wband set. I just worn it about 2 days and the sides where ering and wband meets alreay starts to show some scratches. I thought these sets were designed to avoid scratching (due to not sitting flush, etc) I am now worried how much more it would scratch in the future and would like to know if this is normal. Btw, these rings were sized down from 5.5 to 4.25 and these are 14K white gold rings. I've attached the pictures. Any opinions on this? Thank you.

mrssalvo Ideal Rock Total Posts: 16,860 Last Post: 11/24/2009 Member Since: 1/3/2005	well, i'm not expert but metal rubbing against metal will still wear down. if you get dirt or something inbetween the rings and the rings bang around hitting each other the stuff inbetween might cause scraching?? Folks around her are more concerned with diamond bands eating up the rings. to eliminate the scratching you can always just have the rings soldered together. you can have the rings dipped too which will remove the scraches. again though, i'm just guessing ETA: welcome to PS ----------------------------- A deal is only a deal if you are getting exactly what you want.

adlgel Rough Rock Total Posts: 16 Last Post: 8/18/2009 Member Since: 1/27/2008	I recently reset my ering and wband in settings very similar to yours and noticed the same rubbing on the sides of both rings unfortuantely. It's sad because when you first get them the metal is so so shiny and looks fabulous and within a few days it seems like they have lost their shininess and newness. Since it seems there is no way to avoid it without soldering them together which I don't want to do, I am going to focus on keeping the other parts of the rings clean and shiny.

They just touch it on the inside with a tiny bit of solder in two places and it can easily be separated if needed. I just think that it is worth the tradeoff of all the drama with scratched rings, out of alignment, you know..stuff that will bug you every single day. Basically are there downsides that I am not considering?

I often wear my wedding band to the gym without my e-ring and want to continue to have that option.

The wear on rings in general is totally underestimated. The wear in fact is big part of my business as a jeweler. Most repair jobs come from regular wear. Just think for a moment how often you touch something with your ring hand. Every time you touch something harder then your precious metal piece (doorknob, banister, bottle, tool, knife, ....) your precious piece gets a hit. It ads up over a years, period. The matter of a fact is that jewelry wears. Now if you put two or three rings together on one finger they don't only get hits from the environment but they also hit each other. They literally wear each other out. By wearing rings together on one hand I pretend you take about five years off the life of these rings. As said in a earlier comment, one way to prevent this is soldering them together. Works great, they always show up aligned to each other and don't kill each other. Only draw can't wear them separate. I think the WB only hits the e-ring in one place on the mount below the diamond ( there is a smal circular rubbed area). I get this buffed out from time to time. Guess I accidently landed on a good ratio of setting height to band.
