I have found a diamond that I am thinking about buying except for one thing. The girdle is Thin to Very Thick. Will this affect the diamond visually and are there any other concerns I should think about?

It is not uncommon for the thin part to be in one place only, and if set carefully and protected by a prong then it may not be an issue. But the stone will have a smaller spread. So be sure that the value for the diameter is there. Thick girdles do not often result in inferioir optical performance. The variation con however cause optical symmetry problems so I would look at it with an ideal-scope or use an appraiser. Garry Holloway FGAA DipDT |
