I know I shouldn't be this confused but I am. I have spent some time working with the HCA and I still a having some trouble with it. From what I can understand it is best to be under 2, but is there a difference between .6 and 1.5 or is anything under 2 the same? I understand that one box on the chart is for AGS ID and one is for GIA EX, but does it matter where in those boxes it falls? Also, what does TIC and FIC mean?

Thanks !

T=Tolkowsky
F= firey

just use hca to select stones for further info, and reject those with high numbers.

Ideally, you want the x to be in the box that is for AGS0.  But your hunt will be a lot easier if you just look at vendors like WF and GOG who have already selected ideal cut stones for their inventory.

Ditto Diamondseeker.  Also the HCA is a rejection tool, not for selection as such.  A diamond which scores under 2 is worthy of further consideration, but as the HCA cannot physically see the diamond, a diamond which scores .6 compared to one of 1.5 doesn't necessarily mean that the lower scoring diamond is the best one.  Once you score under 2, you then evaluate using an expert vendor ( as DS suggests) along with tools such as Idealscope, to determine the best cut and performing diamond.

Read here for info on TIC or Tolkowsky Ideal cut.  http://diamonds.pricescope.com/tolk.asp

See here for info for FIC ( fiery ideal cut) proportions.  http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=9305

Nothing is more sacred as the bond between horse and rider...no other creature can ever become so emotionally close to a human as a horse. When a horse dies, the memory lives on because an enormous part of his owner's heart, soul, very existence dies also...but that can never be laid to rest, it is not meant to be...
