1st Timer Rough Rock Total Posts: 26 Last Post: 3/30/2008 Member Since: 2/14/2008	Okay, PSers, here goes: I have the stone selected and on hold. Specs are below. Some of you have provided me thoughts already, and I appreciate it very much. I'm posting what I hope will be my last thread before I get everything done, so here goes. My stone is a 1.2ct ACA from Whiteflash,with measurements 6.84-6.86 x 4.22. The two open points are setting and sizing. I'd like to buy the setting from WF as well. I'm trying my best to make this proposal a surprise, and am even trying to avoid asking her friends. I know her tastes, and feel her friends may just introduce more uncertainty, and well as the risk of leaking the surprise. I know whatever I decide, she will love. I just want to ensure I do my best in deciding. She wears very little jewelry, and I would describe her tastes as classic but modern. I'm set on Platinum, and was originally set on a classic six-prong Tiffany setting, but now am second guessing myself. I'm generally split between the two settings below (one solitaire and one diamond). I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on these or other WF settings you've chosen, or pictures if you would like to share them. Flush Fit Diamond Setting Tiffany Classic 6-Prong Solitaire One point of consideration is the wedding band we ultimately choose. If I get a simple e-ring, I'd probably get a diamond wedding band like the ones pictured here or here. However, if I get a diamong e-ring, I would probably be inclined to suggest a more simple wedding band to avoid overdoing it on the diamonds (though that may be a curse phrase on this forum). Obviously though, I'd be okay with whatever she wanted to put on her finger. As always, thanks in advance for your help.

Can't loose with that. I will also admit that they difintely give off a lot of flash and sparkle together. You can see her coming int the dark!!! I have also seen the solitaire with the channel set, and they are more low key, but still a stunner... So I guess it all depends on how flashy you want things. Either way she'll love them, but one is definitely flashier than the other...

If it's not an issue, and you think she'd rather go more minimal, I'd get the classic 6 prong, and then she can decide if she wants a diamond band for her wedding band, if she wants a little extra sparkle. One thing I love about PS is the positive reinforcement I get from the tentative decisions I keep asking about. With regard to sparkle, I was thinking it would either be extra diamonds on the e-ring, or on the band, but not both...then I saw this from WF, and I think that combined with the Flush Fit e-ring setting I linked above, the two would look great, and wouldn't be overly flashy for her. I almost want to buy both for her...is that acceptable? I've never heard of a proposal where the wedding band is already selected, as I always imagined shopping for those together or letting her pick. I'll stop rambling. If there are more thoughts on this, please keep them coming, and thanks for everything thus far!

It's not that I really look at it and think modern a lot, but then I don't look at the channel set and think classic either. I think I personally find more of those two in the Tiffany compared to the other. I also like the idea of being able to mix it up on WB's with the Tiffany. So if you think diamonds on both is too much, I'd for sure go with the plain solitaire and get a diamond wedding band. That really is my personal preference. Perhaps that was some bad phrasing on my part. Sorry if it was confusing. I was thinking classic in the sense that she doesn't wear trendy jewelry and sticks to the timeless pieces that will work forever (simple stud earrings, occasionally pearls, etc.). On the modern side, she prefers silver (platinum) to yellow gold, and her other tastes would sway more to the modern than traditional. I don't want to get hung up on adjectives though - I guess for the ring I was just looking to not do something too "fashion forward" or anything that would make a big statement. Thanks for your input!

That's an interesting point. I was under the impression that the Tiff setting would work with almost any band, but maybe that was more in regards to look than fit/comfort. Do most people have matching bands that are designed to fit flush with one another? I originally put the Flush Fit setting on my post not because of the fit aspect, but more because I was drawn to the look. I did look at the Sleek Lines settings, and varaiations thereof, including Legato. They're not out of the question. I was just more drawn to the other two at the time. Thanks!

The 6-prong Tiff setting may not sit totally flush due to the protrusion of the head. Makes sense I guess. She said with any flush-fit matching e-ring/band, they recommend getting them soldered together. I forgot to ask how that affects cleaning or any maintenance that might be required, but I assume if soldering is common, it's not a problem. Thanks again so much for your input on this.

And for diamonds on a wedding band with a plain engagement ring setting, rather than the reverse. I like the head better than the Tiffany-style, especially on a 1.2 ct stone, and I am picky on channel settings (as in I don't care for some of them.) This is the problem of hypothesizing without asking the woman in question, however. Who knows if I have similar taste to your girlfriend? I also didn't wear a lot of jewelry prior to engagement, prefer white metal to yellow gold, and "classic but modern" is not specific enough to choose between a classic (Tiffany), a modern but classic-looking ring (Sleek lines), and a fairly classic ring with a sparkly twist (flush fit w/ channel set sidestones). At the end of the day, hers is the most important opinion.

I printed out several views of each one and pulled them out a bunch of times a day to figure out which one I wanted. I drove my co-workers nuts asking for opinions! I was replacing a shared-prong half eternity set that I have never entirely been happy with, and decided that I would miss the sparkle on the band if went with the solitaire so I ordered the flush-fit diamond ring. I chose the bead-set eternity band to go with the ring instead of the band that goes with it. My rings spin, so most of the time only half of my half eternity band actually showed. I'm hoping the full eternity band will solve that little issue. I don't have my rings yet to be able to post pictures for you, but I should have them next week, hopefully!!!!!! My diamond is very close in size to yours, so my pics would give you a very good idea. I have the WF pics, but I want to see what the rings look like in person and how they fit together before I post them.

The ring looks absolutely gorgeous, so thanks so much for referring me to all those pics. I think I may be sold now, and after seeing how your stone looks, I feel like I could go smaller and still be extremely pleased...something to think about I guess. Those extra shots of the different views of your ring were very helpful...I wish WF had more angles on their site. The other WF solitaire settings look great, but for some reason I wasn't as impressed with them as I was with this setting. Particularly given the concern others have raised with the Tiffany setting I was considering, I think I may go this route and either get the matching band and have the two soldered, or pick another band that will sit well. Have you given any thought to what band you might get? I'd be very interested to hear what you end up getting. As it turns out, I am very glad I started giving consideration to the band in advance! Yes, if I elect to buy the matching set right away, I would definitely wait until after the wedding to have them soldered. You raise a good point regarding whether the vendor will still be making the matching band a year or two from now. The only reason for soldering, as I understand from WF, is to reduce the amount of friction the two would have if they fit so snug to one another, and reduce the amount of the finish that may rub off. Again, I know very little, so if I misunderstood that explanation, please do let me know. I think I agree though that if I only do extra stones on one of the rings, it would make most sense to be the band. Thanks!

It is so sparkly that I have to be careful while I'm driving - it throws rainbows all over the car and it is mesmerizing. I am going to go with the matching band. I like the simple, classic look that it will give me. I'm considering asking WF to make me a second one with sapphires and diamonds so I can mix it up a bit.
