The colors I'm looking at for our October Wedding are garnet and tangerine with chocolate and cream. I would rather the girls didn't wear dresses in the red/orange colors, because a) it's not so flattering to all skin tones and b) they are much harder to wear again....not to mention the headache of trying to find the right shades of red or orange. So I was considering having them wear chocolate dresses with colored sashes. Would their brown dresses clash with the black tuxes? What if the guys had chocolate vests/ties? I'm also considering having them wear black dresses, but I prefer the chocolate because it's just a little easier to wear and it's a little warmer, color wise.

Hmmm...maybe if the girls do black sashes it might help to unite the look?

Could the guys do a pattern vest/tie? With a pattern it might be easier to incorporate and tie together the colors.

Would a brown dress and a black sash work together? It's not so much uniting the reds and oranges I'm worried about as I am how the pics will look if guys are in black and girls are in brown....

Rich chocolate brown looks great with black! You just have to make sure the chocolate is chocolately enough, lots of red in it, not too neutral, if you know what I mean. Then have the men wear chocolate brown vests and you're good to go.

we had the same colors for our wedding and my bridesmaid was in a brownish dress with grey undertones (which helped), so we went with charcoal tuxes. In the end, DH decided to buy his tux and went with black and I still thought it looked nice. Admittedly her dress wasn't chocolate brown, but maybe charcoal would blend better? I don't know, I just thought I'd throw it out there...

Largirl, search the forums using brown and black and several topics come up discussing this. I haven't had time to look through them, but I remember some of them having some pictures if you wanted to get a better look.

I've asked this question several times! I just don't know how it would look. HOw do you like the look of the tuxedo below? Black with brown and cream shirt?

I agree with you, it's very tricky but I love the brown look. I'll try to see if I can find some pics of weddings with this color theme for you!

ETA: Ok, I posted the pic and it looks grey, let me try again! Ok for some reason it's changing the colors!
Sorry, guess I am not being helpful.
Try going on a tux site and "building" the tux and see how you like the brown with black.

So I used to be totally anti-black and brown, buuuuut it's "in style." And...well honestly I did it the other day (work brown dress pants w/ black pumps) and it looked pretty good, so yes I think you can.

Blondie, thanks so much for the pics!!

Stephanie, thanks for the advice! I had checked some of the older posts but couldn't find any good pics in them...I'll have to look again with different search terms maybe.

largirl, I had brown dresses on the BM (no sashes) and the men in black tuxes, black vest. DH did a black tux and a cream vest with gold thread. It actually looked really great...instead of sashes, I had really bright, rich bouquets...reds and oranges.  I would recommend putting the guys in a cream colored vest...DH looked great against all the brown.

There should be a picture of it somewhere here on PS.

Just promise me that you won't put the guys in the Daniel Day Lewis Oscar tux?

I'm a Brown and Blue bride, and our groomsmen wore black tuxes with a chocolatebrown/black stripe vest.

Here's a pic of my sister walking back down the aisle in her Brown David's Dress with the 2 groomsmen.  Coincidentally, this pic was taken about 30 minutes after my siter met my husband's best friend (the groomsman on the right).  They have just built a home and are expecting their fist baby in July!  Eek!

Whoa-that's an awesome story to tell! You get full credit! (Well, I guess your husband gets a little credit, too!)

Sorry for the threadjack, largirl-I had to comment on Lauren's story!

I think brown dresses would be just fine with black tuxes. I think it would look best if you went with a chocolatey brown, too. I love the idea of bright bouquets with oranges in them like jas did, too. That would be gorgeous against the brown dresses!

largirl, my BMs had chocolate dresses with a champagne trim, and the boys wore champagne ties, so the outfits were linked but not my the chocolate colour, yet I thought they didn't clash one bit. I think your idea of chocolate dresses with coloured sashes is gorgeous, the boys could even wear red/orange vests or ties to match the girl's sashes, if you didn't want to use too much chocolate?

Sorry these pics are small but you can kinda see the colour thing I had going on! The girls felt great in brown, and have had endless fantastic comments on their dresses!

Thanks, Dandi, that's what I needed to see! And it also gave me the idea of having the girls in a lighter brown, like a champagne or light gold. I still think I'm going with chocolate brown but it's another way to look at it....
