Hello all!

I am in the process of searching for the perfect rock for my girl friend for engagement. I’ve been looking for big cushion cuts (3-4cts.) for around 12k-16k. This forum has proven very useful in my search and have gotten to the point when I am about ready to make a purchase.

Before I take the plunge, I was hoping to get some peoples opinion on a K- color cushion. My main goal is to get a really big rock, but don’t want anything that is “obviously” included and/or yellow. If I have a 3.5ct cushion with K-color in a white gold setting will it be very noticeably yellow?

I just want to make sure I’m not going to buy something that looks noticeably yellow and am afraid the K might be a little to yellow. Keep in mind this K is a EGL cert rock.

Thanks!

You should do a search on EGL here. Sometimes the colour is a few grades off, as well as clarity. I can't answer your K colour question. You need to talk to a cushion expert. Do a search on cushions here. I believe Mark at Engagement Rings Direct is the "cushion guy" unless I'm totally misfiring tonight. I think your price range may be a little low for the size you want, but I'm sure the folks here can help you find something outstanding if you're willing to make a couple of compromises. Welcome to PS!

Is it EGL USA?  If you check the forum, many folks say that EGL (esp. the international) grades a bit weakly, so a K may even be a bit more yellow than you'd expect.

Are you looking to purchase online from a PS vendor?  If you contact the vendors, and tell them what you are looking for, I'm sure they could pull stones for you, and let you know which is the least yellow, or I should say, the whitest.  Hope this helps.

Definitely talk to Mark Turnowski, www.engagementringsdirect.com   He's known here as the king of cushions.  He finds gorgeous cushions and is a great guy.  As far as the stone your are considering, I'm concerned about the EGL cert.  Is it EGLUSA?  Some of the EGL labs have been known for being soft on their grading.  So what is a K, could be a L or a M and same for clarity.  I'd see what Mark can find for you, definitely worth your time.  Good luck and welcome to PS.

I wouldn't go down to a K in a cushion at all. it will be very warm most likely. cushions are not like ideal cut rounds that *hide* color. add to that it's an EGL K and it would probably be graded even lower by GIA.

i agree with the above posters who suggested calling Mark t. he's the cushion guy around here and will find you a winner.
