This is my first time posting a pic, so I hope it works.
What do you think of my ring? It's 1.5 carats on a 3.75 finger. Is the halo too big?

Hi Jaidjo, for my tastes the halo is a little large. 1.5 carats is not a small size and you have very small fingers. I think that halo is too large. Really, you don't need one at all but if you like the look, I would go thinner. What size are the diamonds in the halo?

It's a lovely ring, but I'd also make the halo smaller. I think half that size would be gorgeous!(You'd still get some good coverage)

I was thinking it was too large also. The diamond are 1 pointers. The jeweler could not hand make it any smaller. But the wax seemed smaller.

Any opinions on how I can go about "fixing" a too large halo? FYI, there are 1/2 points set on the side of the halo also.

Also, I wasn't trying to get more finger coverage. I wanted a bezel setting and my husband was afraid that the diamond would look smaller so I told him I'd put a halo to make up for any lost of size (this is a reset)...I didn't expect it to be HUGE!

I don't think that bezel settings make a diamond look smaller. If anything, with the extra metel around it, the diamond often looks bigger. A number of people who are buying smaller diamond studs have them set in bezel to enhance their size.

what size is your center stone? is there a space between the bezel and halo? it looks like the bezel is really thick too which is making the ring even wider.

The center is 1.5. I found this website AFTER I had already ok'd the reset. I only learned more about bezels after the fact (which totally stinks for me).

mrssalvo, there is now space b/w the bezel and the halo, but I agree with you, it does seem rather thick.

Will a jeweler just remake the "head" portion? Any advice on anyone I can contact? Will any of the online vendors/jewelers just make the head portion, or do they usually have to make the whole ring?

i am definetly a halo girl (my ering is a halo setting) but to be honest this halo is a bit unproportional, and just doesnt see, right for that stone( which is amazing by the way!) and it seem like the halo actually takes away from your centerstone.

Here is a picture of cutey's ritani halo/bezel setting. here stone is 1.14 carats and her ring size is a 4.5. I'm pretty sure they use stone a lot smaller that one pointers in the halo though. can you get a refund and start over or do you need to work with your jeweler for a remake?
here's the link to her thread:

emilina22, all the points you made about my ring (unproportional, taking away from the stone etc) were all thoughts I thought. I was just hoping that maybe I was being too picky. I guess not. This is so upsetting. It cost a lot to make the setting and now what?

I think you really have achieved great finger realestate coverage!  It is bling o rama.  I think the stones are perfect size in relation to the center stone.

The issue I see, and again with that one image it may not have merit...but I see the bezel around the center stone...and then the halo metal (bezel) trim butting up next to it.  So it is double row of metal?  Could that be a correct summation?

here is what I interpret the order of metal...using words..

outside..metal...halo stone pointer...metal trim...metal bezel...center stone.  I think it is the width of the metal that is not pleasing...not the stone size. (lets try characters for a visual)

lollO
wow this is hard to express with the keyboard...but perhaps this would look better?

lo:lO = the l is outside bezel, o is the pointer, : is prong for pointers l is your bezel for you center stone O center stone.

Wow there is nothing like spending money on a project and then getting no fun of feedback afterwards huh? It is still lovely...we are just addressing the question you phrased.  Can you post us more photos?  Side profiles, etc?  Oh, welcome to PS...we really are glad you are here!! Even though your first post isn't as fun as it should be...

why can't the jeweler make it any smaller? i've seen handmade halo's with smaller stones so it surely CAN be done and why did he use a wax for a handmade ring? wax's are done for rings that are cast.

as for fixing, what is your jewelers return policy on custom?

mrssalvo, THAT'S the ring I was trying to "copy." The Ritani endless love..with some modifications b/c I did not like how the diamond just "hung" there.
I guess I will contact my jeweler. Is this stupid? I didn't want to say anything to them b/c I originally told them how pretty and happy I was with the ring even though in the back of my mind, I felt that it wasn't really what I wanted. I thought it would grow on me, but it bugs me every single day.

I don't know why they had a wax mold (I thought that was the norm)...but I had to approve it. I wanted the halo on the wax thinner, but it was the thinnest they could hand make it. But the halo and bezel is even thicker than what I had ok'd.

Oh, and no return policy on custom. Once you ok the wax, that's it.

i think contacting your jeweler and telling them the truth is a good start. I would think they would want you to be truly happy with the ring and if your second guessing be willing to work with you to fix it. I think getting rid of the *airline* (the tiny space) between the stone and halo will help too and making the metal in between as thin as possible.

Does anyone have a picture of the Ritani endless love with a 1.5 ct center? Maybe a picture of that will help them out a bit.

Honey, first you are a woman.  We are fickle.  You aren't going to be the first one to teach them that! And secondly, you are the customer.  The paying customer.  Your view and opinion is what is right.  (within the safety perameters of the setting...I mean you can ask them to just glue the stones in or use one prong...)

It is going to cost you more, and it is possible they may allow you some recycling credit.

Go in and express you thoughts...your view today as it has come to change, and see what options are available to you.  The worst that can happen is they say...

"You are crazy and fickle and a nutt!!"...NO!  Just kidding  they aren't going to say that...Women have been known to change their minds.  I bet half of the jewelry in their case has gone out only to find its way back in a week!  Know why?  We women are nutts!

They may make growling noises like here we go again...and roll their eyes...but you aren't going to know until you ask.  They want you happy.  You want you happy.  And we want you happy.  There there...now get your tiny hiny in there and talk to the people you trusted to do this project for you.  Shu!

Wow those pictures show how detailed it is...stones along the edge too!  Wow.  That is really beautiful!

Here is a thought...MrsSalvo and others...what if that center halo was removed and prongs inserted to hold the center stone.  Would that make the ratio look better...or am I the only one with the heavy metal thought.

It looks like all the rest of you continue to say the stones are too large.

Any merit in this view?

well, you've got a lot of ring there....lots of metal!! is it whitegold or platinum?

here a picture of whiteflash's version:

the top ring in the picture is their prong set ring, the bottom one is bezel set. the stones are just one carat and the halo's are in much better proportion. your jeweler really does need to make your halo smaller IMO. second picture is of the bezel on mara's size 6 hand.

Thank you door knob solitaire. I needed that. Sometimes I am too overly concerned with hurting other people's feelings sacrificing my own...I will just think of this as business. Nothing personal.
I will contact them on Monday. I hope they can do something about it.

DKS, i guess it really is a matter of preference. For me, personally, I like the halo to be more of an accent or accessory to the stone. I described it re: my own halo ring as a pretty dress on an already beautiful thing, just fancies the diamond up a bit. Others though do prefer bolder looks which is fine too. my best friend has a cushion halo ring and it's gorgeous but the halo is thick on her ring too. let me dig up a pictue. she loves it though and that's what matters.

I agree the halo is disproportionate. Get a bigger center stone? I hope you can work it out with your jeweller. I also agree that setting with prongs instead might be better. That's a big center stone, and the setting is making it look small.

mrssalve, It's platinum and you are right, there is a lot of metal 4.875 DCT (whatever that means) all, I know is that it's heavy (but not uncomforatble).

door knob solitaire, thank you for your suggestion, but the bezel part of the ring was actually the feature I wanted the most.

I think the ring looks pretty disproportionate...the center stone's bezel setting seems too wide and overall the look kind of dwarfs the center stone. It's very pretty..just a bit much I think.

ok, here's a picture of my best friends ring on my hand. I wear a 3.5-4 too jaidjo..

her center stone is about the same size as mine. my ring is the second one and is currently being sized but see how the stone looks so much bigger on my ring. here ring is about the whole ring and mine, at least to me, still lets the stone shine a bit. it's just a matter of personal preference. i really do think just taking out the airline could really make a difference.

Your ring is very pretty, I love all the metal!  I will say that I do agree that the halo is a bit large, though, but it certainly does not look bad.  I think that it takes away from your center stone, almost makes it look smaller than a 1.5 ct stone.  This is my opinion of course, so please do not be offended!  I love the diamonds along the side of the halo, nice touch!  If it bothers you enough that you came here and posted about it, then I think that you should talk to the jeweler and see what they can do to fix her up a bit!

mrssalvo That is a beautiful ring. I want my center stone to be the focus not the halo. Like in your ring. Can you please tell me where you had your ring made?

Diamond*Dana, thanks for letting me know you don't think it looks bad. I'm actually pretty self conscious about it and getting more so! But I value everyone's opinion. That's why I posted, even though I knew most likely I wouldn't like what I would be hearing.

thanks jaidjo, i just purchased it so it's still very new to me. it's actually a Daniel K ring.

I think your ring is very lovely too, it just needs to be a little more dainty, especially with your tiny hands. if there is any way to get the stones in the halo smaller and use a little less metal i really do think it will make all the difference in the world for you and will get your center stone back to being the *star.*
