I really loved this Reem Acra I tried on. The beading is silvery and the ribbon is a very light, light silver. Small seed pearl details. It just feels so good on!

I was originally looking at fitted mermaid styles. I know most guys tend to think this empire waisted style is not sexy. But I love how it is just so girly. I just wanted to get feedback on what you guys think..I mean do I nessesarily need to "show off" my curves in a fitted dress? -I think this one will actually look a bit more form-fitting once it is in my size. Any feedback you guys have would be great!

Thanks in advance!

i'm going through the same thing with this dress

my FI said that it doesnt even look like a wedding dress....that it looks like a "sundress" but i love it!!!

the mermaid styles looked good on me, but i felt so constricted in them....this made me feel more 'flowing' and free

i say go with what YOU like and feel comfy with! your FI can see you in something sexier after the wedding!

Thats why I wouldn't even show him a picture! I was so afraid he would say the same thing.
Thanks for sharing. - Oh, and my friend wore something silmilar to the dress you have posted from DB for her wedding, and I thought she looked gorgeous! I know what you mean about feeling so flowing and free~

I LOVE empire waist dresses and I'm 99% sure I'll have one for my wedding. The one you posted is GORGEOUS!

Personally. I don't think wedding dresses need to be super tight and sexy all the time...don't get me wrong, people usually look great in them, but that's just not my style. I think you should get whatever you want and love.

Plus a wedding isn't really the time to look "sexy," in my opinion. That's what the wedding night and honeymoon are for!

I think that how YOU feel is most important. If you love the dress and feel great in it then its a winner.

That said, I do like when people take advantage of their natural gifts and show off a nice figure. There are dresses that are flowy and also a bit form fitting. Below is one example. I think you would look great in something that hugs your body a little more.

But if you really love the Reem then go for it. Its beautiful.

Oh BTW, I totally know what salon you are in. I have been there several times. I really love it. I'll probably get my dress there.

I got really good vibes- my first time there. It a beautiful place with classy salespeople.
And thanks for the suggestion- I was thinking the same thing. But when I actually tried on two very similar styles they just made me look squatty. For some reason when the waist drops a bit more, it was not flattering on me at all.

missrocks, that dress is GORgeous! And it's gorgeous on YOU. It looks rather Edwardian, very elegant yet very PRETTY and very ethereal on your bod. Get it. Love it. You will look amazing in that dress. It's fantastic. You could do either a strategic flower in your hair, or some rhinestone barrettes that play on the sparkle in the dress. Or simply do a one layer, tapered long veil that trails behind you. It's just an amazing dress. Love it!

And NO, you dont have to be "sexy" in your wedding gown. Quite honestly, I think "sexy" isn't very bridal but that's just my opinion. I love how that Reem Acra dress makes you look very innocent..It's as if you're getting married in your English families country manor house or something...

ETA: I'd wear your hair down and loose with that dress, it just calls for loose hair!

That dress is INCREDIBLE! It is stunning on you! WOW! I think a veil will help it feel more "bride" like. I know once I put a veil on with a dress it just felt real to me.
(Not that I dont think it looks like a bridal gown.... just making a point!)

Well then, if thats the case then it looks like you've found the right style for your body. That Reem is the most beautiful of the empire dresses I've seen.

The fist dress that I *loved* was empire waisted (Pronovias Clara). It just felt so effortlessly beautiful... like the wearer would exude such confidence in not having to "try" in order to look gorgeous.

The main concerns I had were that 1) some silly people might think I was trying to "hide" a little somethin'-somethin' under that billowy dress, and/or 2) I might regret not taking advantage of my "girlish figure" later on when my figure is less, ahem, girlish.

If neither of those concerns bother you--I say GO for it! That Reem Acra was one of my main "gotta try it on" dresses when I saw it in magazines. It's so yummy!

ETA: The dress I ended up with was empire waisted, but not in the same way (fitted below the bust). It's a nice balance.

i totally know too where you went :) - i tried on a bunch of amsale dresses there during the recent amsale trunk show. all in all a great experience and two hours just flew by.

i think the dress looks very jane austen and i love jane austen! you should wear whatever makes you feel fabulous. i do understand though you worrying about what FI thinks but sometimes guys don't have a sense of fashion :)

i would suggest trying on as many different styles as you can cause- there are tons of different types of empire waists styles out there that maybe FI would find more attractive and trying on a bunch more will either confirm that the reem acra is THE ONE or it will move you towards what you like better.

Missrocks, do you have an appointment for the Reem Acra trunk show at that salon? Its at the end of this month. You might find something great there.

that's a great suggestion goldenstar! plus they were giving a discount on the amsale during the trunk show - 10%- so i am sure they will do the same for the reem trunk show.

and there were dresses from amsale that have not yet hit the stores so you can probably try on some reem dresses that you can't try on anywhere else. the only thing is that you have to be ready to make a quick decision if you are interested in buying one of the trunk/runway dresses. supposedly, you have to order them within 2 weeks of the trunk show although seems like they prefer you order during the trunk show time period.

Goldenstar,

Thanks! I just saw that on their site! I noticed the dress I tried on is not on the Reem website or on any others. I didn't really like any of the pictures I have seen of their others (so far), but it makes me wonder if there are a lot that of others that aren't shown in pictures anywhere, that maybe I would.

Too bad I work long hours on one of those trunk show days, and have an appt. with another place for a Cymbeline trunk show for the other

I guess I have time, since I'm not getting married until 09, in Maui.

Thanks to everyone for the positive feedback so far. It really helps to have opinions, since it is so unexpected that I veered away from my original idea of the mermaid style.

~Thing2of2- Thanks for re-assuring me wedding dresses don't have to be "sexy".
~Surfgirl- That is a good term- "innocent looking". I like that.
~Musey- Yes, I too was concerned people would think I was hiding a little "something". But since I have made it clear i'm not planning on having kids, I hoped that would detour those comments.
~Neveah- Don't worry, I totally got what you are saying.
~Ringster- I started thinking, yeah, most guys don't get fashion, do they?

It's beautiful! I also love empire waists, but that's the one single thing FI requested: no empire waists. He wanted to see my figure. He never likes anything on me unless he can see my curves. WAAAH!

But if your FI can cope, then GET IT! Get it in honour of all us girls who couldn't get an empire waist.

That's a gorgeous dress, Missrocks!!!! I love it on you!!! I went to a wedding last year in Palm Beach, Fl, and the bride wore a Reem Acra empire waisted dress just like that. It was beautiful on her, as it is on you!!! You have to go with what you like and what makes you feel FAB!! If this dress makes you feel that way, then you know its the one!!!

This dress is beautiful!
LOVE the detailing--- it looks so feminine and graceful. It looks sooo nice on you!

I also have an umpire wasted dress as one of my dresses .. and i am worried it might not look right on me? But I love the look.

I just had to say: WOW!!!!!!

I really love Reem and it looks so super stunning on!! I was going for a empire dress from Vera Wang, but I'm still overweight, it might give me that 'is she pregnant or not?!' idea. Of course that's the last thing you want people thinking about your WD. But you totally rock that dress and I think it's a keeper! Would definitely kill for you figure

And I think this is a style that's sexy, just not in an obvious way, it looks super feminine to me!

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say earlier...It's sexy in a coy, understated, romance novel sort of way...As ringster said, in a Jane Austen way. Phew, I need a cold towel!

MissRocks- you look simply beautiful in that dress!

goldenstar- who makes that dress you showed a picture of? I love it!

Yeah I had the same thought.  It's a new Romona Keveza Couture.  Oh my god, if I didn't already have a dress, I'd go after this RK.

MISSROCKS, that Reem is stunning on you.  Please get it.  I'm another one of those who looks pregnant in empire waist dresses...but you look absolutely amazing in it.  I clipped the Reem Acra ad with that particular dress...and it's in my pile of "gowns I wish I could wear/afford".

Thanks to ALL for the votes of confidence. I asked my FI if he had any requests for my dress and he said he thinks I have excellent taste and sure whatever I pick out will be gorgeous and look good on me. I was just waiting for him to say no empire waist..but, phew~ !

Agggh...I really wish I could go to the trunk show, but it would mess up some other plans. I might try and swing it if I can find any pictures of other Reem dresses I like. I checked through all their pics on their site, and the knot.com, instyleweddings, ect.

If anyone finds any NEW pictures (that aren't on their site of the other mentioned) please let me know! I like their beaded, vintage styles, not so much into the satin. In the end yesterday, I was also considering this Carolina Hererra. My friend and I were really liking the fit and neckline of this as well, but in the end decided it needed more beading or "wow" factor. It would be really interesting if REEM ACRA made SOMETHING LIKE this STYLE, but with that beautiful silverly/ seed pearl beadwork! If anyone knows, please feel free to chime in!

~Emrose and Crownjewel- I love RK also. I was thinking about going to their trunk show at bridal image on an upcoming Sunday.

Missrocks-
I tried on a fabulous Matthew Christopher empire waisted dress. It looked FANTASTIC, so ethereal. It definitely has that wow factor you're looking for.

http://www.brides.com/fashion/dresses/gallery/wedding_dresses/vendor/designer/matthewchristopher/detail/140326?offset=9&page=1

It's so much more beautiful in person...the pleats are amazing and all the little criss crosses on the bodice have rhinestones.

Pronovias also has some similar ones.

Scarlet,
That is very pretty. I'm not sure the criss-cross of the top is my style, though. I just love the pleating though! If I happen to come across it I will definetly have to try it one. And I have seen some of the Pronovious ones. They are beautiful too. However, I think what drew me to the Reem Acra the most was that delicate silver beading with the seed pearls. The coloration (subtle silvery look) and the detail was just absolutely sublime. Thanks for the suggestion!

My favorite website to look at dresses is Brides.com. They have a ton of pics. You should go to the Reem area and narrow it down to the most recent season, Fall 08. Here are a few that I pulled...
