Okay, I just read your post in which WF chipped your diamond during the setting process. Um, well I was wondering if you had bought your first diamond from WF or if you had if from another vendor and just bought your setting from them. I am wondering because I am planning on having them set a diamond I bought else where and they told me my diamond isn't insured if they chip it. I almost want to cancle my setting and buy a plain one from GOG where I bought my diamond! I am very scared that I am going to spen 1300.00 on a ring and my diamond might be chipped and we can't afford to buy a new one! Let me know asap because I may cancle my CAD and get a Vachte setting instead! AHHH!!! Stephanie |

I'm going to call WF today and see what they can do for me...there is no use in going though with it if I'm uncomfortable with the process! Not saying that I am not going to get it, but I'm going to call and see what they can do for me, or what they would do if they chipped my diamond!

I've never found a vendor or jeweler that will insure a diamond not bought from them. It's unfortunate and I don't agree with it (it lets them pass the work to those who are not as qualified which is what happens here) but that's the way they do things.

Well I think for 1300.00 it da** well should be insured! I mean, I may not be spending ALL of my money there, but COME ON! That's a nice chunk of change for us! I'd rather take my diamond back to Jonathan who will garentee his work if it's chipped and get a setting I only think is pretty instead of a setting I find to be perfect if it's going to garentee I'm safe! Wouldn't you? I had the diamond shipped to the apprasier in the same building as WF and once he was done with it he brought it straight to Wf because I told him to. Now I wish I would have had it sent back to GOG and have them but it in a setting. What if they DO chip my diamond? Do I still have to buy the setting? I'm out 2500.00 on the diamond and I wouldn't have anything to set in it! What do you think I should do?

You asked what we think you should do. I think that if this is stressing you out then you should check with GOG and see how insurance works if you send the stone back to him for setting. If you like his answer then work with GOG to design a setting that works for you.

ok, i understand you are stressed out and you're right the money you spent is a lot. But, take a second to just calm down a bit. This is one reasonn why I often suggest getting the stone and setting from the same place if possible. then the vendor would take responsiblity if something happened. however, there are ways around it which I suggested in your other thread. Does WF already have your stone? I really do not think chipping is all that common. I can understand your concern though to proceed if the stone is not covered.

Hi Redrose! I'm sorry I'm just responding now. I haven't been near a computer for the entire weekend! ![]() ![]() I bought both a diamond and a setting from WF for my mom. Unfortunately, the first diamond selected was chipped when being set, which is an extremely rare occurence, however, WF sourced another one with the same basic specs and within the same criteria for me and got it all taken care of within the originally noted time frame. It was great service. While, I'm not positive how the situation you described would work if a GOG stone chipped when WF was setting it, you might want to check with both vendors and see how you would be covered off in this type of scenario. I hope that they are able to assist you and that you still manage to get the fab upgrade you've been working on ... Please do let us know how it goes. I hope that they are able to put your mind at ease. * Too much of a good thing can be wonderful * ~ Mae West |
