OK ... So I am putting my center EC diamond search on hold for a while and will obsess instead on the setting for my DW's anniversary ring.

The center stone that I like best so far is at Vendor #1.  (It does NOT, btw, show up when I search on the PS main page! -- why? -- and no, it is not one of those proprietary, in-house-only stones).  I guess I can have another vendor try to call it in, but will they sell it (typically) at the same price?  In other words, do PS vendors typically price-match?

I do not like any of the settings at this Vendor #1, and since what I am looking for is far from unusual, I prefer not to go the customized route.  (I'm not even sure that Vendor #1 will customize).

The vendor that I've been dealing with (Vendor #2) has been most helpful so far, and based also on the feed-back here in this forum, is the one I would like to deal with.  They DO have the type of setting that I like, but for price X, it is less (smaller and fewer side-stones) than what I can get at ...

Vendor #3, who has exactly the setting/price that I want.

Any suggestions on how to proceed?

Thanks!

No clue who is behind door #1, door #2 and door #3??  You seem to like vendor #2, but have no clue what setting you are talking about.  We can only help YOU if you  give us more info!

What are the specs of the stone you are looking for and have you contacted JA about finding one?

Hi ECQ,
Have you considered buying your first choice setting and having it sent to your stone vendor for setting?

Thanks, Storm:  I am tad dissapointed with JA -- I had them call in a stone to get a SARIN and maybe an ASET, which they said would be easy to do.  The diamond WAS put on hold (per their web-site), but I never heard back from them.  I guess I can give them another chance.  (Does anyone here on PS have a recommendation as to who I should work with at JA?)

Thanks, BB:  I need to make some calls.  Ideally, WF can get the stone from BN and sell it to me at close to their (BN's) price.  Then, perhaps, they can do something like the JA setting -- I would be OK with non-ACA side stones, so that 'should' (?) make it possible for them to make the ring with 10 side-stones, 5 points each, F/G VS (which are JA's specs), for about the same price as JA's.

Alternatively, I can do what you suggest, proving that (a) JA will sell me just the setting; (b) that they agree to send it yo BN; and (c) that BN will accept the setting and use it with a stone that I buy from them.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I have dealt with both JA and WF recently. I find that the diamonds at WF were better and the help was better. I just ordered my e-ring and waiting for it to arrive.

Or you can get the stone from WF which you say will come close to the BN price and set it in this setting which has a bit more ct weight for about $250 more. Then you don't have to worry about going vendor to vendor.

Setting

ETA: I got some martini earring from JA recently and I have to admit that with something even as simple as martinis their quality was no where near that of WF's.

Well ... they (WF) haven't said so yet -- and I haven't asked them yet either.  I want to make sure that that's the stone I want before making anybody jump through hoops.

What has PS people's experience been with one vendor price-matching another one's?  Specifically, WF matching BN?

Thanks.

Sorry ECQ, I thought that you already knew that they could do this, I must have misread your post.

I would say it can't hurt to ask them to price match. I'm sure WF will do their best to make you happy if it is within their means. Just give them a call tomorrow, they are really great to talk with and will help you anyway they can.

No problem, KT -- I had snuck that one little word in there!

I just got off the phone with WF -- the'll look into what they can do regarding matching the price of the center stone as well as the setting.

I DO want to work with them, since they offer a few more services, particularly the photos/Sarin/Aset/etc.  But I am not willing to pay a huge amount extra for this; the way I see it: When I receive the ring, I will either like the way it looks while believing that I got a fair deal, or I will not.  In the end, that's what counts, no?

Keep tuned ...
