I noticed that one of the melee at one of the corners of my setting was dark a couple of weeks ago... went to jeweler today to have one of my colored stones set... and had them check my setting out... and BAM completely busted little diamond.

Not a big deal, but I'm a little bummed that I have to send it away again so soon. I love my ring.

Thanks for letting me whine.

aw gypsy, i'm so sorry i would just be heartbroken too. that is the one huge downside to purchasing from an online vendor. you can't just take it up the street for a local guy to fix in a day. i still think the pros outweight the cons, but it sure doesn't make it any easier. I don't even have my setting yet but have thought about what I'll have to do if any stone's ever crack or fall out...

the bright side, it's going to look so huge when it returns and i bet it gets a good bath in an ultrasonic so it will be so CLEAN

Aw, I'm sorry Gyps.

"It is also important for the State to inculcate in its subjects an aversion to any 'conspiracy theory of history' for a search for 'conspiracies' means a search for motives and an attribution of responsibility for historical misdeeds."

-Murray N. Rothbard, in The Anatomy of the State

John Swinton [1829-1901] Chief Editorial Writer of the New York Times (Considered "the Dean of his Profession" by his peers), when asked to toast an 'Independent Press' in a gathering at the National Press Club, circa 1880

"There is no such thing in America as an independent press unless it is in the country towns. You know it, and I know it. There is not one of you who dare express an honest opinion. If you express it you know beforehand that it would never appear in print. I am paid... for keeping my honest opinions out of the paper I am connected with. Others of you are paid similar salaries for doing similar things....

The business of the New York journalist is to distort the truth, to lie outright, to pervert, to vilify, to fawn at the feet of Mammon, and sell his country and race for his daily bread, or for what is about the same thing, his salary. You know this, and I know it and what foolery to be toasting an 'independent press.' We are tools, and the vassals of rich men behind the scenes. We are jumping-jacks. They pull the strings and we dance. Our time, our talents, our lives, our possibilities, all are the property of other men. We are intellectual prostitutes."

i cracked a micropave into smitherines too, so you're not alone!  mine looks all cloudy, my jeweler says he can see where the diamond was hit with his loupe.  you need a loupe to even see this little cloudy diamond though, so i chose not to have it repaired now, i don't want to part with it right now, and im sure sooner than later i'm going to loose or crack another, so when it gets to a certain "critical mass" i'll send it in.  good luck, dont worry about it.

MsS, that's exactly the thing, the jeweler offered to do the repair, but of course, there's no way I'm gonna let them (not even my normal jeweler here, just someone down the street).  It is going to look huge when I get it back.

Thank so much for the sympathy Dani, Ellen, Kaleigh, Tacori and Rainy! I'm sure it will be a relatively quick turn around time. I've put it in it's box for now... I just miss it already. Funny thing is, I was at the jeweler having my old setting set with the colored stone I bought for it. So, that's going to be ready on Wednesday for me to wear as a place holder while this is being repaired.

isis--- mine is totally cloudy too!! It was actually very interesting to see. I've been noticing for a while that one of my corners was off though, with only twenty little melee in the whole setting I've memorized the look of each of them, so it's not hard to tell. I just couldn't figure out what what was wrong with it cause I could see it was still IN there, just absorbing instead of refracting light. Now I know!

Ahh well, I emailed Ocean already, so on Tuesday, this puppy's off to her.

So sorry, Gypsy. I know how you'll miss your ring. Maybe Ocean will sneak it in ahead of some less important jobs so that it won't be off your finger long.
