I am leaving for Chicago on Friday and am going out to buy some thicker scarves tonight. It's freezing up there!!! I saw some Hooded Scarves when I was Christmas shooping, and they looked really cute. Does anyone here recommend a certain brand, or type of material?? Thanks!!

I would check out your local REI, they have some good things for winter. Have fun in Chicago and stay warm!!!

Hmm, I live close to Chicago and visit often. Can't say I've seen the hooded scarves although they sound cute. You'll see a lot of Chicago people wearing hats. When it's really cold I will use a regular scarf over my head then stick my hat on top of it...scarf protects the sides of my face/neck and the hat keeps it all from blowing off. Not sure if you've been to Chicago in the winter, but it seems like it is always windy. I live in Northern Indiana and I will go to Chicago even in the late fall with no hat because no hat would be fine in my city but as soon as I get downtown Chicago I regret not having a hat. I think I've bought at least 5 or so hats in downtown Chicago out of desperation. Good luck on your hooded scarf hunt. Please post what you find.

We are flying into O'Hare, and driving to Hobart where my dad grew up(just outside of Gary). So, you understand that the wind is not so much what I'm worried about. I just wanted to find something that I don't have to worry about missing a piece of to stay warm. If you don't mind me asking... what is the weather like now? How cold do you think this weekend is going to be? ___________________________ |

Mer--I'm a little further east than Hobart. But I have relatives in Hobart too. This weekend is actually supposed to be warmer than it has been.... highs in the mid to high 20s. Snow isn't really in the forecast, but with lake effect snow that can change quickly. It has been wicked cold here lately. Yesterday our high was 2 and the windchills were -25. Today is a little better...16 with wind chills around 5 or so. But it's snowing like mad again--I think we have probably gotten 3-4 inches since I wernt out for lunch which was about 3 hours ago. This has been one of the snowiest winters I can remember...it just keeps coming...a few inches at at time. I'd definitely get something for you head...considering it sounds like you are coming from a warmer climate. Don't forget the gloves too. Are you going to be spending a lot of time outside? If yes, then silk long underwear works really well...it fits easily under clothes and is warm. Landsend.com will have it. If you're not going to be outside much other than to duck in and out of the car to a house/store/restaurant I wouldn't worry too much. A few minutes of freezing is better than sweating for hours in too many layers. Where's home for you?

Between walking the streets until the lights Don't come one, skipping rocks off of the railroad tracks, and hanging at Paul's Diner. LOL. I'm just kidding, that's my family. I'll be at the hospital for my grandmother's last Chemo treatment, and probably mainly running from car to house and back again. I got some new Wellie's for the wet ground, and I'm jsut going to get some leggings to wear under jeans. It's not the cold weather that bothers me... it's the plane landing at O'Hare that freaks me out. I'm surprised that it turned into such a cold winter, considering up through mid December y'all hadn't had much snow at all, right? I'm from Fort Worth, Tx, but now reside in Houston. Yes, it is a much warmer climate, and my dad left the North just as soon as he graduated from IU. I'm surprised he's even making the trip back with me. It's going to be may dad and I from Texas, and my sister flying in from So Cal. I'm sure we'll be the laughing stock of the town for a coupld days. Illinois/Indiana cold is completely different than ANY other cold there is. ___________________________ |
