Can someone tell me if there is a place I can purchase just prongs on the net? Ones with some 'personality'? I'm looking at a four prong for my princess cut e-ring (.52 carats).

I found a very nice two piece set I want, but the heads - uninteresting to me. And those that have the head detail are for 1 carat or higher (but I love my diamond). I always have had a penchant for something detailed on them. I realize having something on the prong tips isn't always a great idea.

But to stay in budget, I thought maybe this was a solution. Anyone have any ideas? Know wehre I can get it?

I can't figure out how to post multiple images...so I'll reply to this one.

Thank you guys for all yoru help so far. I'm just learning about diamonds, or I'd be chiming in a lot more.

This isn't necessarily what we need in the prongs, but an example of what I'm talking about in 'interesting' prongs:

Or, if we can buy a head with diamonds inlaid in the head...that'd work too!

I'd suggest looking at Ritani rings. I think it would be much better to get the whole ring with what you want rather than trying to alter one.

Ask around, I think many jewelers will have a box of heads on their bench. The better ones will be able to add to them if the request isn't too out of this world.

You can check www.stuller.com.  You will not be able to see the prices or order yourself, but your jeweler could do this for you.  Here is one, though I am not sure if this would work or not:

Check out www.stuller.com. They won’t sell directly to you but they have a huge selection and decent pictures online. Pretty much any dealer can get them, including the online folks.

Frankly, I would recommend you buy it from whoever you plan on using to do the assembly and setting. These are both significantly more important issues than the cost of the head and matching the head to both the ring and the stone isn't quite as easy as it seems. It also eliminates one area of fingerpointing in the case of problems and the setter says the head is defective and the head supplier says the setter is a hack. If they’re both the same place they have no opportunity for this.

Those are my loves there..... Sadly, depressingly, and tragically...The rings are way way way out of budget. I appreciate it though. I even asked about gold, rather than plat. Twas not meant to be!!!

I perhaps should just get the wedding band and then save up for the e-ring setting.

We just don't have 4k to drop on two rings.

Thanks to gulliverseyes, Diamond*Dana,  and DenverAppraiser...at least I know they are out there. Stuller didn't have anything that I was specifically looking for, but that did have something that made me hopeful. I'll have to just check out the three local jewelers, one of them specializes in custom pieces, so perhaps I'll be able to get him to modify something for me without going completely custom.

So I hit the motherload...

I may not have to do any prong hunting...

but again, my dilemma, if I get the stone removed from this one, I think it may be too large a setting for my .52 ...

Does anyone know the max amount prongs like this can be sized down? or is it even possible?

This ring is an amazing price. *sigh*

Yeah, heads have to be the right size for the stone you have.  Most heads have a little leeway, like you might fit a  .4 or .6 in a .5 head. But there's no way that ring will work for a .5 stone without removing and replacing the head, just as you were considering with the first ring you posted.

Have you seen these? Some don't have diamond heads, but they are prettier than a plain V head:

Thank you to everyone for your suggestions. And thank you especially for your input.

Mercoledi, that one we can afford. But most of the Whiteflash stuff, we cannot. Anything over 800 and we just cannot afford it. It just isn't going to happen. I can't justify to him why we'd be spending 1k on a e-ring setting and that isn't even with the wedding band. :)

I wish! I WISH I WISH! lol. I'll be able to convince him one time...lol...then I'm 'stuck' with my purhcase for the rest of my life. Which is fine by me.

I found the rings for less than 1k, both of them...but without the fancy head. I just talked to someone and they could get a fancy head for about 150, so I'll assume my local jeweler can too.

Merc - I want that ring! *laughs* now to go see how much the matching band is. *cringes*

Diamondseeker - I do like those heads, they certainly beat any plain head I've seen, just some are out of budget. At least I know what is out there, and I can see that perhaps I'll find something with an interesting head. Everyone keeps pointing at WF...and I can see why. You've been so helpful. :D
