So, I my BF and I have been talking about getting married, and naturally, I want a bigger diamond than my previous one. I have a beautiful princess 1.3 vs2 color H. Anyway, my question is how do I go about trading it in? I HAD papers from GIA but lost them. CAn I get them to reissue them? Can I pay to have them appraise it again? I know I will have much better luck selling the diamond with papers. I know my ex paid about $3,500 from a a wholesale jeweler. I was hoping to recoup at least some of that. Any suggestions? BTW, my ideal rock is a cushion between 1.5 and 2.0

If he paid $3500, you aren't likely to get much if you sell it. I'd consider just making a pendant or something out of it and starting over on an e-ring unless you are just uncomfortable keeping the old stone. Welcome to PS, by the way!

I forgot to mention, he has already looked and has gotten $2k offer for it. That would at least help!! No, I do not want a pendant, since my first marriage was not something I care to rememeber, even by a diamond. Let me re-phrase this....how do I get the diamond GIA certified AGAIN??? Like I said, I had papers for it. If I remember correctly, it may even have the laser no# on it.

I'd say take the $2000 and run! Selling diamonds on the second hand market is tough.

You're probably not going to do better than 2K. also, I'm surprised that an H Vs2 1.3 carat would be 3,500(when was it purchased?)--I'd think it would be a bit more than that. You could get it independently appraised or regraded by GIA if you no longer have the certificate #. Coati, G.G. |

If you have the stone unset, you can send it in to GIA for grading again. Alternately, since you remember it having an inscription, you can take it to a jeweler and ask them to locate the inscription for you: GIA should have a copy of their original report on file, I believe. Once you have the papers in hand, consider selling it on consignment through Pearlman's or another reputable jeweler: $2000 for a 1.3 H VS2 really sounds like a low price.
