Okay so we bought the ring right before Christmas and we were told it'd be in within a month. He has something planned, but I don't know what or when! We got the appraisal in the mail a few weeks ago, and I wonder how they could have appraised a ring that wasn't done? He's claiming he doesn't have it yet, and no I am not asking constantly but I do make cute comments sometimes. I suspect he does have it, but who knows. It's driving me crazy! His parents know, my grandmother and my parents know, but we can't tell anyone else! Only very few other people know. I already started planning which is probably not good, but it's irresistible! Anyway, if anyone could send some calming replies or something my way it'd be great!

I have no particularly calming advice, since we're kind of in the same boat. But I sometimes find that in itself to be soothing. Look at the number of us waiting on the edges of our seats; then go read some proposal stories from the same people.

In the greater scheme of things, we'll be there soon. I guess we need to try to enjoy the adrenaline, and keep it from becoming stress. (And if you figure out a sure-fire way to do that, please let me know!)

I never understand how it's stressful--exciting, absolutely, but stressful? If you know he has the ring, what are you worried about? Just kick back and enjoy the ride!

Part of the stress, I think, is that I'm a control freak, and he's totally in control over the timing of this pretty important part of my life. He's enjoying that quite a lot, actually. I tend to overplan things, especially things that involve my family, and so not knowing when/how I'll be making an announcement to them can make me start obsessing. Plus I have a couple of friends planning weddings right now, and I want to play!

I'm pretty clear that (at least in my case) the switch between excited and stressed is due to some pathological things I've got going, which is why I'm working very hard to stay excited and stay out of the obsessive planning stuff. But I've got to tell you, it's tough.

Plus it gives me more time to freak out about having designed an ugly engagement ring, as I posted on SMTR a week or so ago! Man, I really need to learn yoga or something.

Omg I am totally a control freak, too! The worst thing is not being able to tell people. I really want it to be official first.

SooooOOOooo true. Unfortunately, I can't keep a secret to save my life, so lots of people know about my stone, the ring shopping, etc. I have to keep reminding them that I'm not actually engaged! Soon, though.

I'm a control freak, too, but I've had to learn just to sit back and relax when it comes to this. I mean, what an exciting time! I'd much rather enjoy the ride than to spend every moment stressing.

Update: It looks like he has something planned within the next few weeks! I asked if I should at least expect to be engaged before we visit his grandmother during the first week of March or if I should expect to be engaged by Easter? Ok a little pushy maybe, but not too bad for me hey! He said that by the time we visit his grandma would not by an unreasonable expectation according to his plan.
