Do Sidestones Need To Match 2 carat Gabrielle / 8* / HOF?

jhelms Rough Rock Total Posts: 2 Last Post: 2/11/2008 Member Since: 1/30/2008	I purchased a 2ct Gabrielle carre' stone for my wife a few years ago. We were considering adding sidestones and wanted to get a quick opinion on size and cut. What is considered the 'best' size for sidestones? Her 2ct stone is certainly deserving of remaining the 'attention getter' so we don't mind smaller sidestones - what is the smallest sidestones that we should consider? Also, am I correct in thinking that the sidestones should not be a better color grade than the center stone? Lastly, must the sidestones be Gabrielle to properly match and look right, or would a regular non-gabi radiant cut look good as well? Thanks, John

We also thought about .5ct each round brilliants would be a nice match (not a Gabrielle cut, just a basic round), but I can't find a picture of such a setting online anywhere...

Actually, though, I'd get in touch with someone to custom make your setting, and ask for opinions/guidance, and let them suggest size ratios. I would not do round sides with a square center stone. milton333 Cut Rock Total Posts: 218 Last Post: 6/27/2008 Member Since: 11/8/2007	Also, I hope UCLABelle doesn't mind, here's a link to her emerald cut with trilliant side stones - picture this with your carre cut stone: http://www.pricescope.com/idealbb/view.asp?topicID=57649 I think, if you're going to do side stones with a square cut, you want the side stones to be triangular, trapezoidal, or "fat pear" shaped, so that they have a wide edge that abuts the center stone, and then taper to the shank, that's a very elegant look.
