This may sound like a silly question but for those of you that have sleigh beds, do you need a bedskirt?

It depends. I think you can find one with slits at the corners...so if you really do not wish to look under the bed you do not have to.

The sleigh beds I've looked at don't need a bedskirt, but you can see beneath the bed a bit. You don't see box springs, just a little space. So, I would skip the skirt.

Makes me think of SATC when Charlotte's MIL says something about a bed without a skirt is UNSIGHTLY!

We have a sleigh bed and don't use a bed skirt.  It sits low to the ground so you can see under it about 12-16 inches all the way around, but under the centre is not visible.  If you are worried about this you could probably get a bed skirt.  I have previously used them for other styles of bed but I don't like the way it looks on the sleigh!

Hope that helps!

I don't have a sleighbed , but if I did, then I would use one of these instead of a bedskirt:

Maybe not that pattern and such but I really like the boxspring covers.

HI:

We have one---it's sides dip fairly low (curved) and the mattress is quite visiable.  I have a bedskirt in a simple pattern and it does the trick!

cheers--Sharon

Ditto to the above; we have a sleigh bed in the guestroom and no bedskirt and it looks fine.  My sister also has a sleigh bed in the master bedroom and I do not recall a bedskirt.  Sounds like the one DF describes would work if you want one.

I have a sleigh bed, but it's not a typical sleigh bed, it's more modern.  We use a bedskirt, but the bed is set fairly low that we really don't need one, but it came in the set we got, so we just put it in.

another sleigh bed owner and we don't use a bedskirt. it's actually in my step-sons room and I did use one for a time. it just never hung correctly (probably b/c it didn't have the slits like diamondfan mentioned). anyway, you can see under the bed a bit, but not the matress. i like it b/c he can't just stuff/hide things under the bed

You can get what is called a "Low Profile Box Spring" which is not as high as a regular boxspring and you will not be able to see the boxspring so the bedskirt is not an issue.

If you do the special box thing, it is concealed by the wood of the bed. It really just depends on your sensitivity to seeing under the bed. I do not love to, but that is my own preference. If you cannot find a bed skirt that is made with slits to go on either side of the legs, you might have to go custom. A pita, but then you choose the fabric and know it will fit.
