The heliodor/yellow beryl is 5.57 carats 12mm in diameter. I wanted a big honking yellow stone, so I picked up this guy!

The morganite is 1.75 carats 8.72X6.26.

I think I want to make them into rings, but I'm open to other ideas. I thought about a pendant for the heliodor, but it looks sort of weird, as it is so big. I think I want to do a big fun cocktail ring for that one.

Please throw some ideas at me!
Coati

Is your morganite cooler pinkish or warmer peachy? It looks very warm in the photo.

Of course it would be yummy with diamonds, but I'd like muted green sidestones, but I love pink/green combos - looks like blossom and leaves, to me.

It's a very warm pink. The color is very lotus blossom. I've never thought to combing pinks and greens. Hmmm sounds lovely. My default side stone choice is always diamond, but perhaps another color...

With diamonds, I really like the way marquise sides stones look with square stones. I found an LOST a great photo of this combo today... I'm searching for it. It gives a less architectural feel to a strong ring. Not that I dislike architectural!

Not this setting (yucky photo), but this sorta idea for side stones...

ooo I love marquises placed like leaves as side stones. I've seen a setting similar to this that I love. I've never seen an emerald cut with this type of setting. Would love to see! I do think the emerald cut leans itself to an antique type of setting. Or--the classic/trapezoid tapered baguettes deal.
Thanks for posting that photo!

Okay now I really have to get some photos of my morganite because the shape is very similar to your new stone. I think you would like the way it is set - rose gold & pave diamonds.

I adore heliodor. It looks like another portuguese cut so I would suggest setting it in a way that accentuates the flower like qualities of that cut.

LadyA, I'd love to see your morganite. I already set a morganite in white gold, so I'd love to try rose gold for this one. Yup, the heliodor is a portuguese cut--I like the idea of the marquise side stones for this one.

Gosh, these stones do make me think of that groovy back-to-the-future 70s vibe going on now in art and design!

To me, that morganite says, "Be gentle with me. Let me glow peacefully." So I suggest going to...THE MOON! Flank it with two luminous, good-quality oval moonstones, set with the long sides against the short side of the morganite, in a smooth, flowing bezel ring of a light rose gold or white gold. The moonstones' shimmer will emphasize the sparkle and color of the morganite, without overwhelming it like the hard brightness of diamonds might.

Save the diamonds for the heliodore. That beauty will take all the bling you want to throw at it. You could make the stoplight-bright cocktail ring of your dreams, it's true. But I don't think it's too big for a pendant; I have an aquamarine about that size in a pendant, and it looks very nice. I am picturing a pure gold pendant, no diamonds or anything, two long straps - or stylized willow leaf shapes - curving down to embrace the stone, on a 2mm-thick gold snake chain. I'd wear this with white, black, or gray clothing, and a dashing expression.

Thanks for the suggestions! I like the idea of a yellow gold necklace. I like very fine 1mm link chains. Maybe a gold bezel and a tiny gold chain--24 inches long.hmmmm

I like very fine chains myself, but a stone that size will hang better on a more substantial chain, even if it's in a bezel. If the chain is too long, it will twist around a lot. A 1.5 mm chain link will probably be OK.
