Okay, so now that we have a place (on the beach in NJ) and a date (May 1, 2009). I'm trying to settle down on a color scheme. Because it is on the beach and my favorite color is teal/aqua, I wanted to incorporate that somehow. But then I learned that the FI is really set on having purple be one of our colors. I don't want the aqua/purple to end up looking like we are at a tie-dye party heading out to a Grateful dead concert... I was looking at some seaglass and I found a picture of some jewlery that I edited and grabbed the colors from the seaglass. I think they look good together, but I wanted to get your opinions, of course ![]() So, do you like these colors together? Do you have any suggestions for a purple beach-type wedding scheme? Oh, and also, our wedding is going to be in the evening - ceremony at 6pm and then cocktail hour and a pretty formal dinner to follow, so I'm not sure how that changes things, if at all. |

I think they look very pretty together. They don't remind me of tie die in ANY way. I think it's quite a lovely combination!

They don't look tie-dye!! They look very nice together. However, I think the pastel hues of teal and purple that you chose are a little "casual" and beachy. You said that there is an evening, formal dinner...for which I personally would choose a jewel-tone of either the teal or purple. Or at least a deeper hue of those colors. Maybe a royal purple, or a deep teal? The deeper colors are more "formal" to me.

I sent them off to FI for his opinion and he said he wanted more "vibrant" and that these colors looked too "washed out". I'll have to go back to the drawing board and find a more jewel tone for at least one of the colors. I was looking at darker versions of both of them, but I thought that looked too dark overall. I'm kind of torn because our venue is an old beach club and it has these big round wheel shaped windows and the whole thing reminds me of a more new england/nautical theme. With say, Royal Blue/Red/White and I think that could be very formal (of course it could end up looking very "Love Boat" cruise-shippy too). But since he is adamant about purple I threw that idea out.

I like these two colors together as well, but this is what I'm afraid might be too dark (or too tie-dye). What do you think of these? More suited to the formal occasion? Am I losing the "beach" feel of the ocean side ceremony?

I'm not *officially* planning yet - but my original idea was aqua (like a Tiffany Blue) with champagne and purple accents. Maybe you can do the purple in the form of flowers? I have seen several pictures with the aqua color dresses with a small hint of purple in the bouquets, and it is stunning. FYI - I don't think it looks like tye-dye... :)

I like the colors, but I think you should have one of them be the jewel tone, it would really pop that way.

So true! great colors, what about lightest blue green, the color of an old coca cola bottle turned into sea glass and a deep royal eggplant?

invitation ideas, (humor me, just got mine and am fixated) :) invitation consultants lets you search by color grouping...sometimes its a bit cheaper to go to the website of the original printer, esp if they have coupons online. Regardless, your colors are great and there are lots of combos of them out there, like this! http://www.invitationconsultants.com/invitation.aspx?p_invitationitem=AEN580551

Oooh, those invites are lovely. My cousin's wife is a graphic designer who owns her own Invitations store, so I think my mom wants to go through her to get the invites, which is fine by me. I'll probably be able to customize them for a lot cheaper than normal. And I definitely agree, after looking at the two tone jewel, I don't like the green as much. I want to keep the darker purple and then use a lighter (and more blue) aqua. Thanks again everyone!!

Don't know if this helps at all, but we're looking at a beach wedding and I came across this colour palette today http://www.stylemepretty.com/color_palettes/index.html - you need to scroll down the page to May 25th, Summer Colour Palette. I just adore it, and am sure you could add purple to it.

I think they look pretty together and quite beachy. And yay, NJ! I was born and raised there.

I love that color pallate, now I'll just have to add a dark/vibrant purple into it (although I'd love to have it just as is..silly boy...*grumble, grumble*)
