Hello all, I'll be proposing soon(within the next 2 weeks) and will be purchasing a ring in the next few days. My budget is very modest at $1000 and I want to get the best ring I can and from reading here for some time I know ya'll are more than capable of helping out.

I'm looking to go through James Allen as they have a nice, cheap, 2mm solitaire setting in white gold that will help me put most my budget into the diamond. I know she wants a princess cut and doesn't want to be able to see an inclusion.
Any help finding a great stone in my price range or even a few specs to look for when it comes to princess cuts will all be much appreciated.

Hi MANTI5 :) welcome to pricescope :)

I really don't know all that much about princess but I found a few in your budget (less with pricescope discount :)) that could be worth checking out :)

0.533 ct J VS2 A Cut Above $850
0.54 ct I VS2 Princess $940
0.643 ct J VS2 Princess $918.00

I am sure someone with better princess knowledge then me will chime in soon :)

This streatches your budget a bit, but Blue Nile has a signature ideal princess that's .43 for $814. I would call and see if they can tell you if it's eye-clean; the inculsions aren't plotted on the cert.
.43 G SI 1

ETA: Whitelfash has a cherry picked that hs a nice looking IS. With the PS discount it's $883.
WF 0.51 I VS2

I think these are all very affordable options for a 1/2ct princess cut.  Do you know if she prefers white or yellow diamonds?  I like the white ones myself but there are plenty that love yellows.  My point being is most these fall a little more yellow than I'd like having a preference towards white stones.  For white, I probably wouldn't dip below a G color.

I think your idea of going with JA is a good one with your budget.  I'd recommend emailing or calling them and telling them your desires.  With their $205 setting, you can get more diamond with them than with a vendor where they start at $350 or above.

I'm not an expert at judging princess cuts, but here are some whose pictures appealed to me:

0.51 E SI1 $730 with PS discount

0.54 J SI1 $660

0.44 E SI1 $600

0.43 D VS1

Hang on, I am looking for more diamonds now that I know how much the PS discount changes your bottom line!

Whoa there, nolimits! An H, I or J is nowhere NEAR being yellow. G, H, I and J are in the near colorless category, and D, E and F are in the colorless category. A well cut diamond in H, I or even J should face up pretty darn white. Maybe not quite as crisp as a D, but it should not look yellow by any stretch of the imagination.

To MANTI5, your best bet is to go with an AGS 0 princess cut diamond. That will give you the best performance possible. Whiteflash carries their own line of AGS 0 princesses and they are very nice. Plus, if you or your lady ever wants to go bigger later on, Whiteflash offers a great lifetime upgrade policy.

Thanks everyone for the help, I think I've got some good ideas now and will email JA to get a little more input.

I'll be sure to post pics when I can.
