We are getting married on Maui, just the 2 of us. I'm having trouble finding a dress I like! I've perused the threads here for destination dress suggestions, but I haven't found a whole lot that I like. Maybe you have a suggestion for something I might like? I've been to David's Bridal (all too fancy, even the Galina ones) and looked through websites like Norstroms, Dillards, Ann Taylor, and JCrew. I live in Anchorage which does not have a large selection. I don't want to spend more than $500. I am not curvy so anything that accentuates the chest would not be flattering. I don't like halter tops or strapless dresses. Since we will be marrying on the beach, a train would get too dirty. I prefer something on the plainer side, but flowy. I will provide an example of a dress I like. One is the JCrew Sophia Long Silk dress, but maybe it's too plain? I think it would be really nice with some crystal beading at the waist. Is there a way to easily add that myself? I will order and try it out, but I want to get some backups http://www.jcrew.com/catalog/product.jhtml?id=prod63050231&catId=cat280170 |

I like the dress; it has a lovely simplicity. If you are having a beach wedding with just the two of you, do you need beading on the dress? How would your FI dress? Loose pants and shirt, or open neck shirt under a jacket? If his overall look is casual, your's should be. With simple jewelry, some tropical flowers (maybe a blossom in your hair), this dress would be perfect for a beach wedding. _____________________________ |

My sister got married on a beach, just the two of them. She bought her wedding dress off the rack at a department store on sale for about $20! It looked wonderful on her, it was appropriate for the beach and it's actually rewearable (but is too big on her now so I guess it doesn't make a difference, lol). How far away is the wedding time wise? There are sure to be some more light and airy dresses coming out soon for the spring/summer which will broaden your choices for options online. What about something like this? Chiffon Empire Dress BR1007 I know you said you checked out Davids but everything was too formal... I think this dress has a very informal beachy feeling, and no train. Is something like this more what you're looking for? Or do you really want it to have straps like the one you posted rather than spaghetti ones?

Thank you for everyone's replies! IYou're so helpful! I didn't realize David's Bridal has an online collection that you can't buy in their store. I really like the one partyjewels suggested. Unfortunately, they don't have a size 4. If I order 1 size up and alter it, would that be a problem? They recommended size 6s for me at David Bridals, but they were too big. I like how the straps are unusual and I love the beaded waist (a little bit of detail, but not too much), but I don't think I look too good with strapless or spaghetti straps. I prefer a slightly wider strap. I also like the first eden bridals one. I'm in a little bit of a time crunch b/c we just moved up the wedding so it'll be in the end of March. I'm in the process of moving so I was hoping to wait until I moved to a place with a better selection to get a dress, but it looks like that won't be possible now. Is it possible to find a removable beaded belt to jazz up the JCrew one?

here are a few belts: http://www.handembroideryshop.co.uk/acatalog/Wedding_Belts.html You could get a basic sash like the one below and add a vintage brooch: http://www.jessicamcclintock.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/ProductDisplay?catalogId=10002&storeId=10001&productId=127210&categoryId=10349&subcatname=Cover-Ups,%20Gloves%20&%20More&spage=1&langId=-1&parent_category_rn=10323 Amy Kuschel is known for having really simple dresses with lovely sashes. They are expensive but you might find a deal somewhere.
