I've come across 2 Mikimoto settings which I adore.

The first one is a Cartier-like design with knife edge.

The second one is a 6-prong design.

One problem is, I have never seen the 2 settings in person, so I can't really tell how they look from the side!

As far as I know, the 4-prong design is quite similiar to the Cartier 1895. The only major difference is the knife edge.

If anyone has either of these rings, or have some additional pictures, could you post them or give me some pointers?

Thanks a lot!

It's been a hard choice because...

4-prong: The design is elegant but I'm worried that the knife-edge won't be comfortable. I've been told that it's a "rounded knife-edge" but from the image it's hard to tell how "rounded" it is.

6-prong: Aside from the fact that I don't know how it looks from the side , I'm a bit concerned that a 6-prong will overwhelm a 1.2c stone.

Thanks in advance for any help or comment!

6 prong is a Tiffany's classic setting.

I like the six prong here. The tapering at the ends where the band meets the diamond will probably make the stone look larger.

Here's a thread that talks about some Mikimoto settings:

I love the settings you posted. Can you buy them without diamonds from Mikimoto?

My vote is for the 4 prong knife edge setting. I perfer 4 prongs over 6 prongs.

I'm in touch with one of their dealers and so far it's been promising. Not sure how much it's going to cost and how long it's going to take though.

Thanks for the link. Actually, you can see more of their designs at http://bridal.mikimoto.com/. The site is mostly Japanese but you can see their designs by clicking "Engagement ring"

I have a 6-prong knife edge Tiffany 1.27ct, and I didn't find either of the problems you are concerned with. The knife-edge is not uncomfortable to me at all, in fact i dont even feel it, especially next to my wedding band (full eternity). I also didn't find the 6 prong to overwhelm the stone, especially for a 1.2 ct. It's just a matter of taste for 4 prong vs. 6 prong.

Bump for miki if you're out there....

Can you share more about where you found a dealer and why you think it might take a long time and be difficult? I am loving that 6 prong and I'd be interested to know more...

I agree, I'd like some more info. as well...

I checked out the site
Mikimoto Bridal

But so little of it was in English, including the details and store locator... I think I need a translator.
Definately some great settings though!
