Hi,

My fiancee loves the three sided pave settings, and through looking at your forum as a guest I had already begun the process of custom designing a engagement and wedding band set through whiteflash.

We have decided on an inspired piece based on having a diamond set atop a sapphire, however, my question is this -

People keep telling me that pave settings are risky because the diamonds can grind and you'll lose the stones and end up with holes if you don't constantly replace them, also, the WF representative confirmed to me that this is a possibility.

Why then, do people create three sided pave settings with matching wedding bands?

My fiancee and I were so pleased with our inspired design, and now after seeing some 3 sided pave sets, I feel bad because I can sense her delight in the setting which just so happens to be what i DON'T have...

I'd like to get some GOOD advice and honest feedback about three sided pave settings and how one can get a custom design that includes the three sided pave which doesn't rub or what not.

Ideally, her ring set would be as follows:

http://www.whiteflash.com/Engagement-Rings/Styles/Diamond-Settings/Platinum-Cathedral-Pave-Ring_929.htm#
an engagement ring similar to that, but with three sided pave around the shank, as well as a matching three sided pave wedding band.

The head would be similar to the Reflexions line, and would have a 3/4 carat diamond set atop a sapphire.

This is our desired design, and I'm frustrated at the whole pave thing... but my fiancee loves the look and I want to ensure her continued happiness every time she looks at the ring.

Thank you very much.

I personally would not do 3 sided pave unless it was from a desinger who has made the ring over and over and has a great quality track record. This is not cheap though, you'd pay for the name but IMO be guaranteed the quality to go with it. here's a couple old threads that might provide some helpful info:

why do people make the 3-sided sets? because they are popular now and will sell. it doesn't make them durable though. Leon mege, who makde a ton of high quality 3 sided pave rings suggests no wedding on the same hand.

If your fiancee loves the look and is willing to take extra care with her ring then it can be a beautiful option.
