He is German and I am American and we LIVE in Switzerland. We are having a great time during this process of pre engagement and early wedding planning combining our cultures and making new rules! This past weekend my FF and I actually went to a wedding expo that was in town.... it was so fabulous and we actually BOUGHT his wedding ring. It is being made and will arrive in about 2 weeks! We've been talking extremely openly about our wedding and plans, so it felt perfectly normal that since he bought my engagement ring (being sent from America as I type to you all!) that we get his ring too. (Here in Switzerland, it is normal only to have partner rings, matching bands. They are bought at the same time, but only the woman wears hers during engagement period. Thereby, we are honoring the tradition that both partners have rings at the time of engagement.) My ring is in route.... we chose it together. As the grand scale "engagement ring" is really an American culture thing, we had to create our own rules about what we wanted to do. He really wanted me to have something if I wanted it too. I wanted something unusal and antique. Something with a diamond, but otherwise that does not look like a traditional american ring. In respecting both our cultures, we were able to choose something that made sense for us. We found a wide (slightly tapering) platinum filigree band (more in line with the partner ring idea, except our rings wont match) with a .61 euro cut diamond bezel set from mid to late 1910's. She's a beauty, and I am counting the minutes until she arrives! Today, my FF told me that we are going away March 21-24 for a trip. The location is a surprise..... ladies!!! This is it, I think! He is such a romantic guy and a great planner- I cannot wait to see what he has in store! Unfortuantely be is GREAT at keeping secrets and NOT giving hints! I guess it will make the experience all the richer! How will I ever wait that long!! 10 weeks and some change... I guess I've waited 31 years for this day to come... I can wait ten weeks....maybe... (remind me that I wrote that in about 4 weeks when I've pulled out half a head of my hair! haha! Thanks for letting me share!
