With E-commerce booming like it is, are more women buying diamonds and jewelry than ever before?

Romance and bridal are obviously the big themes in promotion, but diamond jewelry seems to have a much more everyday, no-occasion-necessary feel about it with all of the internet shopping available.

Statitically, who really purchases more... men or women? Does anyone have thoughts to share?

I don't know what the stats are, but I know my own experience.

I love, love, love diamonds. My mom always had great jewelry, and I loved that. But DH does not get this, and would rather spend money on other things.

So, I could wait and wait and never get what I want, or I could get it myself. So that's what I did. I told DH my plan, my budget, and he agreed. And my 3 stone Asscher ring was the result. This was a gift to myself, to celebrate the birth of my little boy.

People often comment that my DH did really good on the purchase, assuming I guess that he must have bought it for me. I simply advise them that LitigatorChick buys her own bling, thankya very much!!!

This is 2008. Women go out and get what they want - careers, educations, homes, cars - with or without men. Why not our bling too!!!

Not sure of the stats either.    Mr. Kaleigh is very generous at Christmas, that's for sure.  But if I see something I love and I can afford it, I buy it.  Why not??  I think it's great!!!

I bought my 6.39 carat EC back in 1996 [I was divorced at the time].

Come to think of it I also bought my emerald and diamond Sabbadini piece, the Rolex, the Chopard, and most of my other stuff!

DH bought the RB and the necklace so far.

My DH prefers that I just do the buying since I know what I want and he knows nothing about diamonds.  Our biggest jewelry purchase was my 3 stone for our tenth anniversary.  We have a friend that is a jeweler at a B&M but also does work out of his home.  The B&M is upscale so he advised us not to come there because he could give us a much better deal in private, so that is what we did.  The three of us got together, I told him exactly what I wanted (cut, colr, clarity...), he called his "diamond guy" and got the stones, ordered the setting and voila!  So I guess that DH and I purchased that together.  It's funny though...my DH is always getting complimented on the fabulous job he did with my ring, and I just let it go .

DH did buy my tennis bracelet himself, though...totally surprised me with that one !

I'm not sure on the stats either, but I know that if I want something I should probably buy it myself. Not because my FI doesn't like to buy me nice things, he just might not think of it, or may not find it particularly necessary. I bought myself my diamond studs, my diamond bangle, and my family all kicked in for my ruby ring over an 8 month period. He has bought me a few small things that I love and cherish because he picked them out, plus he did buy my e-ring - after I picked it out ofcourse. I too get complimented that my man did good job picking my ring, and I just smile.
