from my previous post i have explained how i thought there was a chip on my NEW diamond. it was confirmed by another jewler last night that there indeed was a chip. what are my options? should i try to contac Christian Bernard (the company I bought both my first and second stone from)? should i contact my insurance? even tho i've had this stone since Oct07 and I just got it insured Dec 26.

Most jewelers don’t warranty diamonds against chipping but I suppose you should ask and you should read the paperwork that was given to you when you bought the stone to see if some sort of warranty is in place that covers this. If not, by all means contact your insurance company and ask about filing a claim. If they can make a case that it was damaged before Dec 26 then it won’t be a covered loss, otherwise it might be. I haven’t been following your saga but it looks like you first discovered the damage on Dec 27, the day after you bought the policy. This isn’t completely out of the question but I would certainly consider this to be suspicious circumstances if I were the one investigating this claim. Don’t be surprised if they have a few questions about this and bear in mind that lying to the investigator about it is a felony in most states. The severity of the damage, the loss in value and cost to repair may vary widely due to the esxtent of damage. An insuror may not question a minor, nearly invisible chip, but may well question something quite noticeable. I'd sure like to know how you do with the process. Please keep us informed.
