Hello all,

I'm new to the forum and in the process of getting an engagement ring for my girlfriend. She's decided on the diamond, probably a 1 to 1.5 carat princess to be purchased online, and the setting, a modern Ritani with a channel set band Style Number: 1PCZ2127BRP-782. We've seen this setting in person at two local large chain Ritani dealers in Canada. My GF loves the setting but she wants to make an alteration which would allow for a better view of the center stone.  I'm new to this process and I just want to know if a jeweler would be able to make an adjustment? Or would I have to have the ring custom made to fit her specification.

Call Bill Pearlman (of www.pearlmansjewelers.com). He carries Ritani and will work with you (and Ritani) to get the setting exactly how you want it. His prices are also really good. I know this because a while back I was considering remounting my center stone into a Ritani setting and dealt directly with Bill.

As far as customizing...I am pretty sure Ritani will make some modificiations (I suggest having Ritani set the stone). I know if you go with Bill, he will make sure Ritani does it, and does it correctly. Plus, he is super-nice!!!!

Good luck!!!

Go to WWW.Ritani.com  and search this style/model number 1PCZ2127BRP.

My girlfriend was interested in removing the one section which is preventing the view of the entire center diamond.  Let me know your thoughts.

When I was considering a Ritani for my ering, I had called Pearlman's regarding changing the head on the ring. I was told the ring would be sent to Ritani for the change. I would contact Pearlman's like was suggested.

When I contacted Robbins Brothers regarding the same change, I was told their jeweler would make the change (something I was not comfortable with and felt the quality would not be equal with Ritani).

Here's a link to the setting, but shown with a RB instead of a Princess: Pearlmans. Hope that helps. The Ritani site is a bit hard to use.

I really like the Princess setting you picked. I guess you need to worry about protecting the four corners, and not try to do anything that might jeopardize that part. Gorgeous setting!

I found it by pasting the model # into the search box. I imagine they could make some alterations. That side piece may be needed for structural reasons, but maybe it could be made differently. I wouldn't under any circumstances have another jeweler try to alter it. I'd only do it if Ritani would make the changes. And I agree that Bill Pearlman would be the person I would work with on the project.

~~~ When in doubt...don't.~~~
I will definitely give Bill a call, and discuss the alterations.
Any idea on possible turnaround time..... Do you think that I have the ring by Valentines day? I was told that for such a request it will take 2 to 3 months due to high demand season.
I can tell you that I had a Ritani setting customized through my local jeweler, and it was very easy.  We had it done around May-June, and I think it took around 5 weeks.  I purchased this setting, and asked Ritani to make 3/4 pave with round prongs instead of heart-shaped.  I happened to speak with a Ritani rep at a trunk show, and he was very upfront about the modifications they can and can't make to their rings.  For example, I wanted my prongs thinner and he got out his loupe and showed me how they have to be a certain thickness to hold the diamonds set under the pavillion.  Point being that I don't think they will agree to do something that will compromise the integrity of the setting, so ask for what you want!
