I just want to begin by thanking everyone that posts here for all the valuable information that all of you guys share. It is really going to help me when I start looking for a engagement ring for my girlfriend. However, right now I am planning to buy a diamond pendent for my girlfriend and wanted to know your advice about buying a Whiteflash Four Prong Basket Diamond Pendent that is Ready Set to Go. I know it has a diamond from ES and was wondering how that would affect the brilliance and the sparkle of the diamond? I know all whiteflash ES are not ideal cut, so should I spend a little more money to buy a ACA diamond and the chain separately from whiteflash rather then go with a "ready set to go" pendent? Or is the difference so small that it would be better to just save the money? I know my girlfriend really wants the diamond to sparkle. I wanted to spend around $1500 for the whole pendent, but if necessary I can stretch to $2000. I am looking at around .40 carat size or high with color ranges of H to J color, while going down in clarity all the way to Sl1. Also the chain should be 16in and white gold.

I bet RSG or ACA would be spectacular and anybody like me couldn't tell the difference, the advantage of the RSG is quick and easy purchase, the diamonds are not certified, though, so no option of trading them in for a bigger one with WF in the future. The advantage of picking your own is, in my mind, the possibility of upgrading that .4 in the future to a bigger diamond, the thrill of the hunt in finding the diamond to your specs, and maybe making custom changes on the necklace. Someone here just got a new pendant from WF and they put an extraloop thingy on the back so she can change the length of the pendant from shorter to longer (which is neat!). Good luck, and all you experts, correct me if I 'm wrong. The kids are'nt up yet so Christmas hasn't officially begun yet at my house--those silly young adults sleep late now on Christmas unlike the rush when they were rugrats. Wish there was a diamond pendant under my tree this year! (sigh)

So if you go with the RSG option you will not have to worry about the cut. To me, the advantage of picking your own (ES or ACA) is that you can upgrade in the future. Disadvantage is that it costs a little more. Plus, you have to do a little more homework, but it sounds like you have a good idea of what you want. If you think she is the sentimental type who will not want to upgrade, I think you are safe either way. I got a .40 J SI1 (where I picked my own ES stone) and had it set in the 3 prong martini. I am thrilled with it! I thought I might want to upgrade in the future so it was worth paying a little more now (actually, I think I paid about the same as RSG, but the color was a tad lower, so that was my tradeoff.) Also, I spent way, way under your budget, so I'm confident that you will be able to find what you are looking for within budget.

Your budget is VERY healthy, you could do lots with it. My e-ring is ES not ACA and I think it is wonderful. My earrings are ACA and are wonderful too. From a mind clean point of view, I would prefer ACA to ES, but it would be when comparing 2 identical stones that I would choose ACA. I would not sacrafice the colour or clarity or size I wanted for ACA. As you know if you choose the stone yourself it is upgradeable (ES or ACA), but if you do not care for this then consider Ready Set for your 1st purchase.

I wasn't sure if anyone was going to respond today being christmas, but I am glad all of you guys did. I feel a little more comfortable buying a RSG pendent, I just didn't want to buy a dud. I think I am going to go for the RSG from whiteflash, since I am 99% sure my gf will not want to upgrade in the future. I will make a decision by wednesday, right now I am stuck between getting the .40 carat H in 18K WG or spending more money to get .75 carat I in 18K WG.
