i'm trying to decide on a color pallet for the wedding. it's probably going to be the weekend before christmas, but i don't want straight up red and green. the space is pretty stark, so no worries about clashing with interior decor.

choice one: dark maroon with a lime green, with either black or brown accents

Hi Mimzy

I am not super in love with the color maroon but I love red and teal together (for a more modern look) and I also love red and pink, which when done right can look very pretty and romantic (and not Valentines Day-y)!

i like the first palate. i like the play of the lime green and maroon and that they are Christmas colors, but skewed. and then i think the black pops more. maroon and brown are already so close to each other.

I like the maroon, lime and brown combo.

I like having other deep reds mixed in with maroon.

This is kinda that color palette, though the table cloths are more golden than a straight brown (but it looks like the chairs are brown). I love the colors though I would like to see some darker reds with those brighter reds. And I love green cymbidium orchids with brown... green orchids with a touch of red are gorgeous and can go well with a Christmas theme without being "too Christmasy" red red and green green.

ETA: Also taking out some of those red & white flowers and replacing them with maroon would look richer and less Christmasy, IMVHO.

I saw a segment with Susan Lucci of that soap opera...she was showing how she decorates for Christmas.  She uses red and pink.  I thought yuk.  Then I saw what she was doing.  And the colors together were so refreshing and almost added a flavor to the theme.  You know you really can taste some colors.  My mouth was watering...strangely.

I think she made low arrangements of lets say pink and red peonies...of course it could have been carnations...but what ever it was it was really lovely.  I can see low glass bowls filled with water and reds and pink flowers a float.  Or the petals strewn along the floor on the isle...reds and pinks.

Just my 2 cents.  If I had more pennies I would offer them... but these were the only two colors similar to your choices that I recognized having seen work.  §

ETA:  I see Sunnygirl already offered that combo.  Sorry, didn't mean to step on your toes SG!!
