Holy Moly, I just put my zipcode into this website and the average wedding budget in my area is $44,930. ![]() I'm sure there are high highs and low lows but that average seems insane to me.

Mine was a bit high for my area too. Sheesh. I wonder where they get their numbers...

I wonder where they get their numbers. I live in an area with a relatively low cost of living, and the website said average cost for my area is $23,900. I'm doing mine for $10,000 less than that and I'm having a pretty "average" wedding for where I live.

I did that awhile back in defense of my budget we're doing a wedding in LA for $20k and I find myself having to sacrifice things to meet it. A certain future in-law told me I "just have too expensive of taste," so I showed him that "LA weddings average $33,700, according to costofwedding.com," so it's not that my taste is expensive, the area is expensive.I also very much doubt the accuracy of this site (where DO they get their numbers??), but it certainly worked for my purposes! ETA: I actually thought the average for LA would be higher, because vendors do seem to be highly priced. I think a lot of people here, though, do opt for the very simple beach (or even city hall) wedding, that doesn't have much cost outside of the reception (bar/catering) associated with it. I guess.

The site gave me #33,400 for Chicago, which seems pretty low to me, but they lump Chicago with Joliet and Naperville, which are three VERY different locations. Interesting. I'm still trying to do ours for far less, so we'll see what happens! ********************************************************** |

How interesting..... Cincinnati was almost $30,000. That's probably about right. Our venue for reception has a minimum of $20K. I found most places downtown were similar. I always thought that you had to have so many plates paid for but here it's just a minimum price you have to spend. Seems right to me but I'm sure no matter where you live you could spend $500 to $500,000 depending on how you do it!

Plano, TX has an avaerga of $32,260 - which seems about right. We spent 10% of that including airfare and travel for our wedding. *********************************************** |
