ETA: ARGH! That would be PASADENA, CA (I HATE when I typo in the title!)Anyway.... can anyone recommend a location for short-term cooking classes? This is for a Christmas gift for my dad from my mom... not looking for a degree program or anything, and he doesn't really need "the basics." California School for the Culinary Arts had non-degree, short-term, monthly-themed classes, but I don't see them listed anywhere other than old links from the 2005 year. So, my idea isn't gonna work. Any ideas??? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ May you live all the days of your life. -Swift |

That sounds like a great present! Too bad neither of my parents likes cooking or I'd do something like that for them. Sur la Table has one-day courses, at the Farmers Market location in LA (click on the location to get a schedule): Sur la table cooking classes. Is that too short term though? Maybe she could sign him up for a couple of different classes. *** |

I often see listings for a "Chef Eric's Culinary Classroom" in the weekly Wine Events email I get. It's not in Pasadena though- it's in West L.A: http://www.localwineevents.com/Los-Angeles-Wine/event-156709.html BTW- Very cool present idea!

I took a class at a Whole Foods about 5 years ago in Houston. It was really fun - I don't know what their classes are like now, but this one was an asian cooking class and we each made our own portions so it was hands on and really fun. I know the WF around here do classes but one I peeked in on wasn't hands on so they might vary in their offerings. It's worth a call though.

There is a spankin'-brand-new Whole Foods in Pasadena. It's HUUUUGE! http://www.wholefoodsmarket.com/stores/arroyo/index.html
